Prince of Persia 3D that I own on CD doesn't work on Windows 10 even though it ran on this very machine when it was windows 8. All it does now is briefly appear as a background process in the task manager before vanishing from the TM and ceasing to function; it doesn't even load.

This is extremely frustrating because it used to work fine on Windows 8 and not even the compatibility modes help here. I have found nowhere that provides a fix for this and since it isn't on GOG or Steam (because it's rather sub par compared to the 2D games before it and the Sands of Time Trilogy), I can't just download a working one easily.

The link here below is where I got a patch that I thought would fix Prince of Persia 3D not running on my system, however it doesn't work: nothing changes after applying the patch, and I even scanned it and my system with Malwarebytes to make sure it wasn't fake.

https://support.ubi.com/en-US/Faqs/000005828/Prince-of-Persia-3D-Patch-1364549879805?fallback=en_GB

It contained no threats and the system scan found nothing, so the patch isn't a Trojan, it's just defective.

Anyone have any advice that can help me get this running? Even safe downloadable versions that actually function will work.

I tried the Dreamcast port on Null DC and I found it too clunky (despite the original being clunkier) and it uses @save crystals" ala Tomb Raider 1 that are too few and far between so I don't think I'll use that one.

I would like solutions for the PC version only please.

Microsoft broke compatibility with SafeDisc DRM from Windows 10: I suppose that's why your game won't start.
I am afraid there is no other solution than using a cracked executable.

I don't think such a thing exist, not mentioning their illegality.
The ideal solution should be officially asking publisher to provide a DRM-free executable to every owner.
More concretely, I can only suggest you to look around for it on the web.
I cant get it to work either since the Creator´s Update of Windows 10.

It keeps crashing on me when i´ll start it. Telling me the Error Code:

0xc0000022

Any Ideas on that maybe?

What about running my disk on a Windows XP or 7 virtual machine? I still have OS CDs of those two knocking around.

You need an unprotected EXE.

There's no two ways about it. PoP3D compatibility has been broken since Windows XP - I should know, I've been trying to get it to run for years.

Even the patch was a mess. It wouldn't install correctly.

So you're going to have to "get your hands dirty".

As far as I'm concerned, that's no big deal. I have the big box original Red Orb release. I know Ubisoft has the rights to the game, but they didn't fix anything. It still won't run on XP and above.

However, many people are incredibly anal about this sort of thing. I can help you, but I don't know you, so I have no idea how you react to modified EXEs.

I've *just* finished the game again, finally. The last time I played was back in 2000, maybe 2001, running it at 800x600 with erratic framerate on a PIII 450 Mhz with Windows 98 S.E.

Now I played it on Windows 10 64, at 1920x1080 (yes, widescreen, not stretched) at a solid 60 fps, with an XBox 360 controller, and 5.1 positional audio.

At the risk of sounding like a dealer, do you want some of that good stuff? Just let me know, and I'll post an easy guide for you.

Thank you. I actually found such an executable on the Prince of Persia unofficial website along with patched copies of 1 and 2. I can now run the game using my original disk thanks to the crack on this site.

Yeah, that's the one.

By the way, are you sing dgVoodoo2?

It makes the game much more stable, and the frame rate a lot more smooth.

The only problem is that the videos won't play in fullscreen, but you can force it to run it windowed fullscreen, and the videos will play fine.

You can also edit the resolution to widescreen:

https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/662857-Prince-of-Persia-3D-resolution?p=8261061&viewfull=1#post8261061

I used HxD to edit the file, it's really easy. For 1920x1080, just put in 07 80 and 04 38. Just make sure you set the video/audio preferences before editing, or it will revert back to 640x480. The key bindings can be edited at any time, it won't interfere with the resolution.

Let me know if you need more help. It took me so long to get it working properly, I'm more than happy to spread all that I've figured out.

It's a great game, despite all its flaws. It's a shame it's not on GOG.

Who's sing dgVoodoo2?

The videos seem to work fine via my disk anyway and the images that come with the download. (useful if I forget to pack my disk if I'm going somewhere)

Since when I installed it the game made me download an older version of quicktime in order to get the videos to play, the sound quality on the FMVs in the game is god awful and it crackles to high heaven.

*Using dgVoodoo2.

It's a small program that emulates old versions of DirectX on Windows 10, it's a huge improvement in some games, PoP3D included.

The videos work fine for me with both QT Lite 4.1.0 (it uses QuickTime 7.6.9) and QuickTime 7.7.9, so that was probably only an issue of your previous QuickTime installation. Try one of those. I recommend QT Lite.
Could anyone help me to figure out how to run the game on win 10? I have the original CDs, almost 20yo, but I cannot run the game on the new laptop :((
@darkredshift I cannot send you a pw

Go to this website: https://www.popuw.com/

The crack is under the Prince of Persia 3D section.

Hello,

Could you please get me the full guide to setup the game using Dgvoodoo2? I tried using it. Although the game works, the videos don't play and is blank with only the sounds. I would love to atleast have the videos play in full screen windowed and the game in full screen (1080x1920) if possible. Need your help on this. Thanks.

Yeah, dgVoodoo2 has a problem with some videos. They know it, hopefully it will be fixed eventually.

There's a better, simpler way for some games, and it works great for Prince of Persia 3D. Download the latest version of this file, the experimental one, the v0.2.1 does not work with PoP3d. https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat/releases

Then just unzip it to the main directory. That's it!

By the way, there's a couple of textures that don't load, except from the CD. I've tried lots of things, but nothing works. The simplest solution is to make an image of the 2nd disc and mount it with Daemon-Tools or something like that.
