Stig79: Well I told you you could chose to believe me or not. All up to you. No need to get all butthurt fanboy over it.

V4V: Going ad hominem if your attempt to shift the burden of proof doesn't work. That will tell them suckers to believe you the next time.

"What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence." – Christopher Hitchens
Actually I already explained it to you. The publisher (Beamdog) decides how to sell the product they have acquired the rights to. Common practice. You know...because it INCLUDES licensing and DISTRIBUTION rights??? I spoonfed you this information earlier. Sorry it didn't stick. I will repeat it for you. When a company get the buy the rights to a franchise, it includes licensing and DISTRIBUTION.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distribution_(business) Here is what Distribution means.

“Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.”
― Aldous Huxley,

“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

“There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe,
I already purchased this game - the first game I bought on this site, in fact. But I'm going to wait to see how Beamdog handles the enhanced version of it before I purchase it. Does seem promising, though.

I didn't say anything about this, I only pointed out your argumentative fallacies.

No you whole argument was "If you don't have time to dig around and find a quote from a thread that is more than a year old, everything you say is invalid".

No, it's just unproven. Demanding from doubters that they have to dig up your proofs and calling them fanboys are the fallacies.

By the way, laying words in my mouth I never said and then arguing against them is another fallacy.

Logical fallacies

List of fallacies
You carry burden of proof when you actually have the goal of proving. Which is apparently not the case here. You have been provided with information, you can use it or ignore it.
Jumping in screaming "Oh I'm going SOOOO dismiss it" is just stupid.

If you want to establish whether the letter was true or not, you can search for it in the forums, and report the result, even a negative one. That would add something to the discussion.
If you don't want to establish that, and you don't have any other fact to present, then apparently it's arguing for the sake of arguing.

ValamirCleaver: I wonder how many bothered to directly contact Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro to express their opinion regarding the original versions of the Infinity Engine games only being available for purchase with the Beamdog Enhanced Editions or does anyone realistically believe that Beamdog and/or GOG unilaterally made that decision on their own?

Thanks for bringing this up again. I've been wondering this, too. The last link is my post that you inspired last year with the previous batch of Beamdog bundling. I posted my letter to Hasbro (as a template - people always think someone else will do it, so I tried to make it easy) and their reply + other info in the hopes of getting others to do the same - no one ever said they did.

I never saw anyone post a WotC "blah, blah" reply anywhere as Stig79 suggests (not calling you a liar Stig79, but the burden of proof is on the plaintiff - claimant, in this case). From my experience going to both WotC and Hasbro, WotC was fairly clear that you should contact Hasbro about this matter.

Also, for those of you interested in rankings and other info of the original BGs and IWD, there're links in the post to the Wayback Machine right about the time of the bundling.

PS:T Info:

The most recent (Jan 26, 2017) backup I could find of the Best Sellers page on Wayback with the original PS:T (it's still sold, but has been removed from the Best Seller list, already): https://web.archive.org/web/20170126090744/https://www.gog.com/games?sort=bestselling&page=1

For future reference, the PS:T page (Mar 27, 2017): https://web.archive.org/web/20170327191126/https://www.gog.com/game/planescape_torment

A Wishlist entry for not bundling PS:T with the EE (probably won't help, but can't hurt): https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/do_not_remove_the_original_planescape_torment_from_the_store

I just mentioned that lette rin passing, really. Which is why I added that people could believe it or not. I am not going to search through GoG for a post that is more than a year old.

But since Beamdog owns the distribution rights to Planescape and BG now, it is fairly obvious that they are calling the shots about how the game is to be sold.

That's fine. Anyway, Hasbro has the final say and, not trying to be rude, but doing something about it (other than bothering with Beamdog) will do more than complaining here. Go for positive action instead of negative. It may not work, but then again, it may.

This was exactly the reason why I posted this again; people like to passively-aggressively bitch, whine, moan & complain on GOG's forums. While some may feel some strange form of catharsis from doing so; do they really think that doing just this is going to have any realistic chance of expressing their opinions to those that can ultimately affect what they wish? Do they honestly think that throwing a fit on GOG's forum will get the original games unbundled?

You speak most loudly to for profit companies with your purchases and/or lack of therefore. You convince a for profit company to acquiesce to your desires by having an extremely large amount of like minded individuals directly communicate clearly & concisely in no uncertain terms that you will not be patronizing the company in any way, shape or form. You give a list that you will not be purchasing any Magic the Gathering, Duel Masters, Avon Hill, Diplomacy, Risk, Axis & Allies, Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Nerf, My Little Pony, Play-Doh, Clue, Chutes and Ladders, Baby Alive, Cranium, Battleship, Candyland, Furby, Blazing Team, Bleyblade, B-Daman, Bop It!, Connect 4, DropMix, Easy-Bake, Catch Phrase, FurReal, Guess Who?, Jenga, Kre-O, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Jurrassic Park/World/Lost World/Land, Disney Junior/Princess/Frozen/Descendants/Playmation, Hero Mashers, Monopoly, MouseTrap, Mr. Potato Head, Memory Game, Operation, Playskool, Simon, Scattergories, Scabble, Sesame Street, Sorry!, Marvel/Avengers/Spider-Man, Star Wars, Super Soaker, Taboo, Game of Life, Trivial Pursuit, Trolls, Twister, Trouble Game, Yahtzee, etc... items. You inform them that you will communicate to everyone you know of the same. How many have bothered to directly contact ther IP holder regarding this?

Hence why I asked for a direct, independent, verifiable, unbiased citation. If one refuses to provide proof of one's claims it undermines one's argument.

No need to provide that link to the letter is it? Since it has been proven that Beamdog have the DISTRIBUTION rights.

Which was basically what I said I remembered that letter said anyway...

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125217-Baldurs-Gate-Enhanced-Edition-Pulled-From-Stores Remember this little mess? Look who had to remove the game from sale. Beamdog. WOTC didn't pull it from any of the stores. It was Beamdog. Know why that is? Because Beamdog has the distribution rights....they can sell it any way they want.

Since they have full distribution rights for the BG franchise....Guess who decided to remove the classics from the stores, to give their own versions all the spotlight?

Other than plan99, have you or any of the other complainers directly contacted Hasbro to communicate clearly & concisely in no uncertain terms that you will not be patronizing the company in any way, shape or form including not making any purchases related to IP in the long list that I culled from Hasbro's, WotC's & Avon Hill's websites and that will be communication this same information to everyone you know? Have you convinced anyone else to also do the same? Are you going to do anything else other than just passively-aggressively bitch, whine & moan on GOG's forums?

Like I said, Hasbro has the final say (they own WotC) and as ValamirCleaver basically said, if enough people let them know they're voting with their wallets they may decide unbundling is in their best interests. Let them know, otherwise nothing will change.

I didn't read the article, but I remember that. Sorry if it was in the article, but why would Beamdog pull their own product? As I remember, people on Steam were talking about it being a rights problem (besides being extremely buggy). How could they have a rights problem with themselves? Fans on Steam rejoiced when whatever rights problem was resolved and the EE returned, coming here also.
