Im passing time and do upgrades in the workshop and visit points of interest but there are no missions to do. Are missions only part of the main story or when i have to defend my base? Am i missing something?

There`s usually always something. Could be a luck of the draw thing. What difficulty are you on?

The middle one. Normal basically.

Strange. Maybe it`s just the luck of the draw. This is probably me telling you how to suck eggs, if so sorry, but make sure you have clicked the `play` button (spacebar).

If you`re doing that just keep waiting.... or if nothing ever happens, start a new game.

You might not have done all the intel connections you need to do to advance the story. Sometimes you need to put operative to work on analytics first. Then you need to do all the necessary connections on your intel pin-board to advance the story. There should always be either intel to research and connect up or a clear objective on the map to investigate as far as I can recall so far (playing the KGB story).

So it could be another bugged thing then? Ok, so am i supposed to get into plenty of missions to do while passing time and hopping between points of interest or not?

Im not talking about main story, i thought we get non main story missions as well. I know i can do the main mission at any time but i really hope this isnt the only missions we get in this game...

There should still be missions even if she`s not advancing the actual story. They should still be searching for her HQ which should give her missions to prevent that. However, I`ve not played the KGB side.

This may be a dumb question, but it sounds like you send agents to points of interest that pop up. Does the POI turn into a red binoculars icon afterwards? When that happens, there's usually options if you click on them to respond to the activity. For example, if a POI had an informant, the bad guys may send a hitman to kill them. There will be options on how to respond. Some of those options end in missions you can go on. You get the mission inside the popup that shows the options. There will be a green button on the option to Assault or whatever. Clicking on it starts the mission. After I did the Recon upgrade at the base, I started responding with the recon option. Those timed out and let me go in to capture an agent or rescue the informant, etc.
@SarahAustin

There are definitely side missions. For example some points of interest turn into an enemy binocular where they are trying to scout you out and increase the danger meter. You can scout and attack those.

Another example is finding informants that give you a random reward after a time. These will be sometimes be targeted for assassination by enemy agents. You can then intercept and prevent this from happening.

I'm sure there are other examples. It's probably RNG-based to a large extent though so sometimes it could take some time before anything like it pops up.

I get that binocular thing sometimes yes. I send an agent to it and they get me stuff like a nerw recruit or some intel on a new enemy agent.

Yes. Some of the options that show up on those involve missions. The recon example I mentioned before, I would send 2 people on the recon mission option. They'd fly there and a green progress bar showed up under the red one. When the green one filled up, The popup would have a green button on the Recon option to go on the mission.

Edit: I guess it's not a green button. I can attach 2 images, 1 during the recon timer for a mission, and the second when the timer finishes. There is an assault button that starts a mission.

I think you initially only get the missions to stop enemy recon. Then, if you do the story mission, then it unlocks the ability for enemies to try to assassinate your informants, which in turn allows you to go on missions to rescue informants. So, I think new mission types are unlocked as you progress with the story missions.
