According to changelog 1.5.29823 (14 October 2019) the game supports gamepad. When I run the game, it detects my Xbox360 compatible controller (Speedlink Xeox), but button mapping is very unusual. "X" button works as "B", "B" works as "A", right stick: moving left - look up, moving right - look down, moving up or down - switch weapon. The game is completely unplayable with such settings.

I wonder if you also experienced this problem and how it can be solved? I know that my controller is not official Xbox360, but I've never encountered similar problem in other games with gamepad support.

I play it with the PS4 Controller and everything is fine, maybe you have one - try it. I connected the controller with a cable to my notebook (MacBook Pro 16).

I've had this problem and been unable to play for years, only to find there was a switch on the back of my controller to change between Xinput and DirectInput modes. It needs to be in DirectInput.
If your controller doesn't have this option, then I'm not smart enough to give you a better solution than just buying a new one. The one I use is just a cheapo Logitek one, so it *shouldn't* break the bank. Probably.
