Picked up this game on sale a while back with the intention of playing it soonish. I picked up a Razer Blade Stealth with the 1650, and this would be the perfect game to play while on the go.

However, it crashes instantly on launch. Sometimes I get the initial screen with the thanks message, but usually not.

Did a ton of researching, reviewing logs, etc. I came across one obscure random thread mentioning Galaxy64.dll (the crashing DLL in my logs). I went into the Kingmaker folder and renamed it to something else. Launched again. Got same error, for a different Galaxy64.dll. Renamed that one as well.

Success! Game got past the thanks screen and started loading. But alas, now it sits at the Kingmaker logo (after loading the yellow bar) and does nothing. My gaming PC it works fine, it gets to the games menu.

Other things I've tried/additional info:
Fresh Windows install.
Repair/verify files.
Disable GPU's (one at a time)
Closing all other software.
OS and all drivers are up to date.
Removed registry entries.
Edited registry for border-less windowed settings.
Disabled cloud saves and deleted the save folders.
Installed a handful of other games that all work without issues.
Win 10 Home, instead of Pro on the desktop.
Using Gog Galaxy 2.0.

I've run out of ideas at this point. Is there something I missed or can try?

Already tried that no luck.

Double check the fullscreen setting and that your are changing the right regedit line. It's almost always because of the fullscreen bug that the game freeze during loading.

Edit: It seem to be sometime fix by running the game as a administrator.

Went through and re-tried the registry edit (I did both fullscreen entries, separately) along with admin, no luck. Tried another repair for good measure as well. Second thread however led me to a log file containing this. If Galaxy64.dll exists I don't get useful logs in there. The "mono" directory does not exist. The bottom log entries file does exist.

Fallback handler could not load library C:/Games/Pathfinder Kingmaker/Kingmaker_Data/Mono/GalaxyCSharpGlue
Fallback handler could not load library C:/Games/Pathfinder Kingmaker/Kingmaker_Data/Mono/GalaxyCSharpGlue.dll

Plugins: Failed to load 'C:/Games/Pathfinder Kingmaker/Kingmaker_Data/Plugins/GalaxyCSharpGlue.dll' with error 'The specified module could not be found. '.

Edit: I'm trying to launch the game both from Gog and directly from the EXE with the same results.

Does GalaxyCSharpGlue.dll exist on your PC, anywhere?

That folder does not exist.

GalaxyCSharpGlue.dll does exist here:
C:/Games/Pathfinder Kingmaker/Kingmaker_Data/Plugins/
C:/Games/Pathfinder Kingmaker/

Edit: Some of the other files mentioned in the log don't exist in either of the above locations.

same problem here with my aspire 5 notebook: the game crash instant after launch. but this is not the loading screen problem! as nightpanda said, the problem is the galaxy64.dll in other worlds, the problem is the gog.com version of the game! the only solution for me was to use the steam version of the game. no problems there! one more reason the use steam only! the rest (origin, uplay, gog, ...) is a stupid piece of sh*** compared to steam.

Do you understand that the main advantage of GOG is the existence of offline installation which does not require any client? If yes, then download it and install. If not...

the steam version works. no need to use gog anymore. i also dont like the gog overlay very much. in germany the internet is shi***. but we are never offline, so no offline installation needed.

Until steam deletes a game from your library, and nothing you can do about that.
I had a similar problem, it crashed right after the "thank you" screen.

It seems I managed to solve by doing the regedit trick and running Pathfinder as administrator straight from its folder, while Galaxy is CLOSED. I tried to run it from Galaxy but it crashed, so I had to use regedit again.

I had the exact same issue (crashing on loading screen before menu) on my Razer Blade Stealth and it seems the issue is on all new 10th Generation Intel CPUs. The game developer has to patch the game, but here's the workaround on Intel site:

https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/articles/openssl-sha-crash-bug-requires-application-update.html

Step-by-step guide:

1. Press WIN+X
2. Click System
3. Click "Advanced System Settings"
4. Click "Environment variables..."
5. On the BOTTOM (under System variables) click "New..."
6. Enter:

Variable name: OPENSSL_ia32cap
Variable value: ~0x20000000

(Note the correct number of zeroes and tilde sign)

7. Click OK

This should fix this issue for Pathfinder and other Unity games with the same problem (e.g. Endless Space 2).

Hi, I'm also having problems launching the game.

I have been trying a new game, tried Varnhold'lot and finish it about 2 days ago.
I bought the game way back in 2018, never encounter any problem. Upgraded my PC to 9600K 16Go 1660Ti since then.
I played about a few dozens hours on this configuration, full screen 3440*1440 without a hitch.

Then for some unkown reasons to me, I can longer launched the game. A window opens, covering the full display, everything is black, then a pop up named "Pathfinder Kingmaker - Unity 2018.4.10f1_a0470569e97b" opened. There is nothing in it, except for a P in the font of the game feats icons and a loading bar.

When the bar finishes loading, the pop up vanishes, the windows closes and I'm back on my desktop.

I tried:

- Repairing the files
- Closing my firewall
- Deactivating GoG overlay
- Cloud synching is turned off because I have too much saves
- I tried uninstalling mods (respec and Visual adjustements)
- Launched the game with administrator rights (directly from folder)
- Downgrading to previous patch
- Erasing pathfinder folder then owlcat folder in registry
- The solution in the post above
- Uninstalling/reinstalling the game
- Downloading installer for an offline installation
- Uninstalling reinstalling GoG galaxy
- After uninstalling game + GoG, using ccleaner to clean registry base, then restart comuter, install everything back.
- I removed all official DLC

I don't have any problem with other game installed through GoG, or using unity.
The only thing that seems out of the ordinary is that my computer rebooted because of a windows update, when normally I'm supposed to just be notified when one is available.

Thanks for any help given.

EDIT:

I just tested another Unity game (Wasteland 3) et I have the same mistake. I think I found the culprit.

I got this in Windows journal:

And now that I think about it, I'm pretty much sure, that the update was about the sonic Studio 3...

Desinstalled sonicStudio3 and everything is back in order. I let my post here, in case it can help someone.

If you want to access your window logs, here how:

- Windows key + r
- enter : eventvwr

if you want to access application logs
- goes to Windows logs folder
- click on application
