I've done all the compatibility options. Run as admin, duh. XP sp3 didn't work, 98/ME nope, win 95 nope,

Simply spell out the solution. This has apparently been going for 2010, but the game is being pushed in an editor's choice and still isn't working.

I'm in the same boat - how do I get PG2 (as downloaded from GoG) to work on my new w10 laptop? Did the downloads multiple times, but get the "application was unable to start correctly...." message as soon as I tried to boot it up!
At a dead end, please any help appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Kevin
I had CTD when I started Panzer General 2 on my Windows 10 computer. I downloaded and installed June 2010 DirectX runtime package. Worked like a charm.

From another thread I spotted this advice:

This is quite often caused by disabled DirectPlay. In order to enable it, please follow these instructions:
- Please go to the Desktop. Press WinKey+R to open Run window, in it type: appwiz.cpl
-in side bar, click "Turn Windows features on or off" link
-find the Legacy components on the list
-enable DirectPlay, and click OK to install it.

Kudos to Trombi for finding and posting it.
