Linux and Mac versions are up on Steam... I waited all day yesterday, refreshing the GOG page. Anyone know when it's coming here?

I... I'm sorry, but words fail me when I try to communicate what I just learned in my own words. I'll leave a quote and the links here:

Looks like Observer will not be coming out for Linux, with Aspyr giving a "no-explanation" explanation.

The game is now released and at Steam for download with almost 8 GB ready. Unfortunately the game needs a steam connection when entering the menu. As Aspyr told us on demand, the Linux version will not be available at GOG, although the game is available there for Windows and OS X.
Erhm... what?

What the hell...? I guess I'll message the devs and try to get a clear answer because this doesn't make any sense.
Oh. I only just read the link properly. What the fuck am I supposed to do with that? I don't have or want a steam account.

it's both annoying and insulting.
way to go aspyr if your goal was to alienate and lose customers (even if just a small percent of)...
I'm fine with buying games on Steam, but I won't pay more than $5 for a game with DRM. I guess I'll have to wait until it's more heavily discounted.

I don't think that's really the point here, or at least, it's not the major point. The Windows version is available on Steam **and** GOG (DRM-free, no online activation, no required download client). Why wouldn't the Linux (or OS X) version launch on GOG as well?

On the one hand, they're a private company, so they can do as they seem fit with their product, but from a money making perspective, why would you choose to limit your potential sales? My spidey senses are tingling now....

In any case, I'll await the GOG Linux version...would've paid the 28$CDN for it too Aspyr! :P
Not only are the politics of it very iffy but I was really excited about this game and I can't play it until it releases here. I refuse to buy anything with DRM. I've literally been refreshing the GOG store page since the supposed release day. I'd play the Windows release, if it worked on Wine, but it's DX11...

I'm waiting for the linux version too, but I won't buy the windows version even if it works under wine.
I want to encourage companies that do native linux ports and I think that the only mean to do it is to buy a game only if it's been released natively. (For the same reason I'm not buying Ruiner, that I was waiting since the announcement, until the linux version is out)

Apparently, an Aspyr developer does say that the linux version is planned for release on GOG:

I certainly admire No Tux, No Bux but gaming is something important to me so I use Wine, if it's the only option. Having said that, I am holding out to see if the Linux version makes its way here.

I don't want to be overly pessimistic, but the developer in question (Aspyr-Blair) said in August "Thats the plan", while another official spokesperson from Aspyr Media told the journalist comrad from holarse-linuxgaming.de on the 24th of October that a Linux release on GOG wasn't going to happen.
From my perspective it simply seems like their plans have changed... That being said, I hope I'm wrong and this is just some form of misunderstanding.

I agree. I just meant that I would prefer a GOG linux release. Otherwise, I won't be paying full price for it.
