We’re happy to let you know the multiplayer mode for No Man’s Sky on GOG.COM has entered beta. It’s available now via GOG Galaxy on the „Experimental Multiplayer" beta branch and will be rolling out to everyone soon.

If you’d like to start playing NMS multiplayer in beta right now, first you need to be signed up to beta branches in GOG Galaxy. To do that, once you have the game installed on your machine, and added to Galaxy, select it from the side-bar on the left. Then click on MORE -> Settings, and look for the BETA CHANNELS setting in the top-right corner. To enable beta branches change this setting to ON.
Now, choose the „Experimental Multiplayer” branch from the UPDATES: CHANNEL drop-down list.

Let us know how you like it and enjoy the game!

First: Woohoo, thanks!
Only with GOG players? Or steam as well?
Hooray!!! Thanks so much, we've been waiting for this. ^_^

There is no GOG and Steam crossplay, unfortunately.
Great news! Thanks HG and GOG!

Do you know if it's planned or is it always going to be GOG mp only?

Thanks HG and GOG. NMS will be the first game I have ever been willing to try multiplayer!

I only plan on playing with friends, fortunately...:)

But yes, I take your point!

That's very sad to hear. Somehow Concerned Ape and his small team managed this for Stardew Valley but not the significantly larger Hello Games? I won't be buying the game until this is implemented. I cannot ask my friends to buy the game a second time on GOG just so I can play with them - since I prefer to buy games DRM-free if the option is available.

Thank you for the update. I look forward to trying this out once all the bugs are worked out.

Yes, it would be ideal if they were interoperable. Still, the PS4 and Xbox are also in separate universes. AIUI (and I apologize for not recalling who mentioned this in the forum here) Steam provided a dev kit to help HG bootstrap their way into implementing multiplayer on Steam, so there may be IP or contractural restrictions on interoperability.
So far so good. I played a game on my new save and my old save. Joined random game and also played with friend. No issues that I can see.
