Experimental 1.58A 24/08/2018

(quote)

Hello everyone,

We are continuing to address the highest priority issues reported by the community. As always, thank you for playing the game and taking the time to report any issues you encounter!

Please note that due to the large number of changes in this patch, especially the fixes for save game recovery, there is always the possibility it may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please post them here, or submit a ticket to Zendesk[hellogames.zendesk.com] with the phrase "Steam Experimental 24/08" in the ticket title.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man's Sky from the Steam library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab. Select "Code: 3xperimental" in the dropdown menu under "Select the beta you would like to opt into".

Hello Games
See this thread for info on how to get the Experimental versions through GOG Galaxy:

https://www.gog.com/forum/no_mans_sky/gog_galaxy_offers_a_specific_beta_channel_for_developers

Read the posts in the thread because there's an important point I didn't know about that HG highlights...! It's very easy and even uses the same password as Steam.
Version 1.58 is now final. Are there differences between the experimetal version and the final version?

GoG has now released a '1.58d' patch but no updated changelog since 1.54.

The webpage link above lists all important changes and fixes, EXCEPT 1 very important:

Savegames from 1.57 and before, also your old saves from previous updates will not work anymore because the save format has changed in 1.58. (I have not verified this personally yet, so please confirm!)

So you better make a whole backup of your save game folder if you ever want to continue with all your progress which AFAIK you have to do in a past update/version of the game. Also I advice to keep these savegame updates and the old version 1.57 and update this one to a version x.xx where it's more stable and the save conversion works without you losing many inventory objects or still having many bugs in the game. Don't do it and you would have to start all over at some point...

Yep, DOS2 came in at ~18GBs +, and the kicker is that it doesn't replace the previous game, it adds to it....;)
