hello,
I just purchased NWN Diamond to play on my new ultrabook. The game runs great but the interface is so small. Im running the game at 1600x900, but even lowering the resolution only seems to reduce the screen size used. I had thought it may just scale up the in game elements.

Is there any way to increase the size of hotbar buttons and the menu/interface in the upper right corner? Also, and other modifications that are possible for the in game frames?

Please excuse me if this is has been answered prior. Ive tried to search the forums, but its a bit overwhelming and google searches usually just find NWN2 topics.
Thanks very much,
David

It's a setting in your graphics cards settings. "Enable GPU scaling" or something like that.
You have it set so, that a game running at eg. 1280x720 runs in a box in the middle of the screen (at actual 1280x720 size). You want to find the setting that stretches the image.

It's not in NWN settings, but ATI or Nvidia control center, or whatever they're named.
Thanks very much, I'll look into that. Unfortunately this machine is using Intel 4000 gpu rather than an ATI or nvidia gpu, but I'm sure the option is there somewhere. I'll post back if I can confirm. Thanks for your time!

im afraid I cant find that setting anywhere with this gpu. its an easy find with NVidia or ATI, but not with this intel hd 4000

Make sure that your desktop resolution to bigger then the resolution for the game.
It is. My desktop is 1600x900. Im trying to run NWN at around 1280x720 but scaled up to full screen. Mainly because the user interface elements are so small when running at native 1600x900.

I tried the image scaling linked above, and it doesn't have an effect on the game.

If only it was as easy as with an Nvidia machine.... So many of the games on GoG that id love to be able to play on this machine.

What if you just change your desktop to the resolution you want first? You'd have to do it every time you start the game, but it should work.
I just tried that. set the desktop to 1280x720, and the game still doesn't scale up to full screen. Its almost as if the game realizes its 1600x900 natively even though I changed the desktop resolution.
This may be long shot, but may be worth trying. Go into your NeverwinterNights/NWN folder. In there is a file called NWN.ini. Open this with any text editor and scroll down until you find [Display Options] (should be about line 30). Below this is a list of options, one of which is FullScreen. It should be set to 1 e.g. FullScreen=1. If it isn't, make it so and save.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Tarot, the ini was already set as full screen, so I set to "0" just to give it a try, also worked with the resolution in the ini. Still no luck.

On a side note, I had the same problem with Baldurs Gate 2, but enabling win7 service pack 3 fixed the problem easily. No suck luck with NWN though.

Try changing the "RefreshRate=" to 59 in the nwn.ini - I notice my laptop (w/ Intel 4000) sometimes defaults to 59Hz when I change resolutions running it on my HDTV. For some reason it messes with the screen position.

Also make sure the "Width=" and "Height=" is correct in nwn.ini, and possibly also make the same values in nwconfig.ini ("Desktop Resolution="). Not sure if that would make a difference, but worth a try.

Note if you have the game installed in Win7 "Program Files" folder, the edits might not take effect, because Win7 protects that folder from changes. Best solution for that is to install the game elsewhere.

I tried all of the ini changes and still to no avail. its a shame there isn't just a way to adjust the UI elements because it looks great at 1600x900. I may just have to learn to live with it. Ive never played any of the old D&D type Bioware games before, so I was hoping for better visibility of the text/menus/etc. lol
Long shot number 2. In your graphics card settings there should be something about waiting for vertical refresh. This needs to be off unless the application requests it.

If this does not help, I suggest you join the bioboards (look in the thread about links) and ask there as there are a number people who may be able to help. As NwN is an old game you will need to scroll nearly to the bottom to find the relevant threads.

Also you could try the user-group/manufacturer's website for your particular laptop.
