Are we going to get a port to Mac for this game anytime soon? Or am I going to have to resign myself to figuring out how to use a wineskin?

wineskin is your best bet - it is an old game, and runs fine on linux. Mac is just linux so, wineskin is the way to go.

Absolutely not ;)

But yes, wineskin is probably the way to go. There’s a native Linux client for NWN, but I’ve never heard about a Mac OS one.

Mac underpinnings are largely BSD linux.

but to the point...

http://www.amazon.com/Neverwinter-Nights-Mac/dp/B0000A33ZM

shows it did exist...

http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Mac_OS_X

tells why it is no more and,

http://paulthetall.com/neverwinter-nights-mac/

purports to tell how to make NWN run on mac.

Best wishes to all.

Oh, I see where you got mixed up: Linux and BSD are two distinct kernels with very little in common.

Anyway, thanks for your links, I guess acthornt should find anything he/she needs to play NWN on Mac OS in there ;)
While I am sad that there doesn't seem to be a mac port on the way, I am grateful for all the helpful replies. Thanks gang!

You can also try the Wineskin instructions here.

You will not be able to use the NWN toolset though.

I can vouch for both NWN1 and NWN2 running fine on a Mac via Wineskin. Be sure to get the latest Wineskin wrapper if you use OS 10.11 (El Capitan), as it broke earlier versions.

I seem to recall that NWN1 required a little tweaking of the nwn.ini or nwnplayer.ini file, something related to intro movies I think, in order to get up and running. I don't recall details and could be mistaken, though--it's been a long time and now I just keep backups of my .ini files in case I reinstall. If you have any problems I'd be happy to send them.

Best wishes.
