Since linux support has been introduced I'm wondering how long it'll take before the linux version gets supported (if at all)

the linux version wasn't too well known but it was released (in fact, I still have all the linux binaries patched all the way to 1.69), the files were still on bioware's servers as of 2011, they're still likely to be there and I'd gladly help locate them if required.
It would be rather nice if the linux version was available as manually setting it up is a hassle (as compared to installing it through a package)
I was wondering that too, i have the game in my account, but am having a difficult time getting the native client running, my brother seemed to get it working right away. The Linux version pre setup would be nice.

yeah, setting it up is a pain if you haven't done it, you have to first run cabextract on the installer archives, then you have to copy the binaries over, then manually apply each patch (binaries, texture fixes etc) in order, oh and it gets real convoluted if you want the expansions as well :P
first you have to do the main game, then the expansions in order of release, then you have to patch the game, then the expansions and you have to do that twice depending on the version your cab archive is (for diamond and platinum you only need to install one patch)
it's not fun at all (however it isn't hard, it's just time consuming)
