When I try to launch the game nothing happens. nwmain.exe appears in the Task Manager process list but it's always at 0% CPU usage. I've tried using a renamed copy of nwmain, running in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode, launching directly from it's installed path, using the safe mode launcher, installing the 1.69 critical rebuild patch, reinstalling the game, and adding +TestNewModule "123456" to the launch options.
I'm using Windows Vista but UAC is disabled, the game is not installed to the Program Files directory, and I have no active realtime virus protection.

I've looked around on these forums and elsewhere and couldn't find any solutions I haven't tried. What really worries me is that I found a thread about this on the Bioware forums that had been getting replies for over a year and the problem still wasn't solved. I've already sent a support ticket to GOG, but I think it's going to be a while before I hear back on this one.

Anyone got any ideas?

I got some troubles with Win7 myself. A solution was to edit the nwn.ini-file to savemovie=0. Also i lower the desired solution (but im not sure if this was necessary).

Good luck.

You mean "safemovie", right? That's already set to 0. I tried switching it to 1 and that didn't make a difference either.
I would add Disable Intro Movies=1 & check in the ini that the resolution & the refresh rate are supported by you video drivers & your screen or monitor.
And I would also look in event viewer for anything that coincides with trying to run NWN.
You may need the June 2010 DirectX runtime package. See if that solves your problem.
I tried adding DisableIntroMovies=1 to the ini and that made no difference. The resolution and refresh rate are correct and the test feature works properly in nwconfig.exe. nwmain never appears in the application events.

I installed the DirectX Runtime package. Unfortunately still no change. nwmain.exe continues doing absolutely nothing when launched, with the only indication that it's even running being the process visible in taskmanager.

AndyNPC: . nwmain never appears in the application events.
But does anything else show up at the time you are trying to run it?
A soundcard driver issue for example, wouldn't show up as nwmain.exe
The only application events from these past two days were related to Flash player.

EDIT: Wait, hang on. I tried changing sound to disabled on a hunch and it worked, the game launched! Now the new question: how do I get sound working?

Try reducing your system sound quality in Control Panel advanced options. For example, if you have it set to 24 bit, 48000 Hz, try setting it to a lower setting, like 16 bit, 44100 Hz.
Tried lowering the quality to 16 bit 44100hz, didn't work. Even tried installing new Realtek HD Audio drivers but that didn't help either. At least I know the problem is somewhat related to sound now.

Are your new Realtek drivers from Realtek's own site? because I had trouble with the Realtek drivers from Asus.
I uninstalled them & just let Windows install default Microsoft drivers & had no more troubles.
Yeah, I got them from the Realtek site.
I tried uninstalling the Realtek drivers, but that just caused more problems I needed to system restore out of. I found a lead that installing 3D SoundBack beta 0.1 would fix the issues with NWN, but that didn't help either. GOG support got back to me, but I've done everything they've suggested since I sent them the first e-mail.

I'm about to give up and just roleplay as a deaf adventurer.
