Hi. I just finished the OC and exported my character. But when I hit the 'select character' button in MOTB, it crashes the game. I can create new characters, and load saves made in MOTB, but can't select a character at the beginning.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
GTX 570
8 gigs RAM
i5-2500k

Thanks for any assistance.

This may be a long shot, but do you have anything in the My Docs\Neverwinter Nights 2\Override-folder? If yes, remove everything and see, if that helps. You can then put everything back in, one by one, until you find the culprit.

If the override-folder is empty, then remove your exported character from the localvault-folder and see if it works now. If it does, then there is something wrong with the character. Export it from the OC once more and try it again.

If neither works, then the only thing left is reinstalling the game. I can't think of anything else.
The problem turned out to be caused by some files installed by a couple of multiplayer servers I've been on. I fixed it by renaming the my documents/neverwinter nights 2 folder to something else (nwn2mods). When I restarted the game, it remakes another neverwinter nights 2 folder and now it works. I just had to move my OC character from the original folder to the new one.

Thanks for your help guys.
Something to keep in mind is that persistent worlds often include custom classes, and if you have characters from a PW in your local vault, it can cause crashes when you try to select a character. My understanding was that Skywing's Client Extension stops those crashes. Are you not using that?
kebsis, your the 1st person I have seen say the got through the GOG version of the OC with Windows 7 64bit.
Can I asked where you installed the game, did you run setup as administrator, did you disable UAC, & was there anything else you had to do to make it update the saves properly?
I wasn't aware that people were having trouble with it, it hasn't given me any trouble. What do you mean 'Update the saves properly'?

I just installed it normally pretty much; Installed to c:\gog game\neverwinter nights 2. I always run installers as admin. I also checked NWN2 itself to run as admin, and I launch the game via a desktop icon. The only other compatibility option checked is 'disable display scaling on high DPI settings', but that was checked by default. I didn't disable UAC.

Also, I'm running the System Builder version of Win7. Though as far as I know, it's pretty much identical to the retail version.

And this is a long shot, but right now I'm having a problem with Windows Indexing on my computer, so nothing is indexed. I doubt that has anything to do with it but there you go.

The saved games are made up of multiple files & often some of them either don't get updated, or get replaced with default ones, & so the game doesn't know you have completed a quest or meet someone, or had a cut scene run, & your left with, for example having to re-recruit someone you have already recruited, only you can't beacause they are right there & not at the place you already recruited them from.

The other post you just replied to is a classic example.
The game doesn't know he was in the middle of the sweeping the docks quest, so he gets no dialogue from the city watch. Also the cut scene from the assassins he had already killed, reappeared.

You pretty much installed it as I did the first time, thanks for the reply.
I see. Maybe it has something to do with me usually saving over old saves instead of making new ones. I rarely have more than two or three save files.

edit: Oh, and I don't use quick save either, I just save with the options menu.

I'm the guy who got through oc using Vista with few problems (we discussed it on another thread). I just wanted to add that I reuse my saves as well, don't use quicksave, and always use the 'escape' menu for saves and loads.
To expand on what I mean by 'reuse saves', I use saves as follows:

Start - at the beginning, after any character creation, character equip, and any starting cut scenes etc. Past any beginning of game stuff that I might find tedious to repeat.
SessionStart - every time I boot up and load the most recent save, I pause and save it over SessionStart.
QuestStart - every time I head out for a new quest (or in a new direction, or towards a new goal, or...).
aaa - most of the time this is the most recent save. I save here whenever I feel like I've been playing long enough that I don't want to risk the progress I've made.
danger - If I want to try something risky but I don't want to lose my aaa save. Sometimes I complete an entire game without ever making a danger save.

Probably 95% of the loads I do are loading aaa.
