I just grabbed NWN2 while it was $8 and installed it. I'm seeing that I have a "Universal Patch" thing, and there is some kind of "serial tool" in my game folder that I ~assume~ updates my personal multiplayer key.

Also, with NWN1 on here, I had to apply the 1.69 HotU update myself. Do I have to also do this to NWN2 in order to have it compatible with the latest multiplayer servers and modules?

That said, what order do I do all of this in? Install NWN2 > Universal Update > Latest Critical Rebuild Patch > Serial Tool to change CDkey?

You don't need any updates or patches for GOG's NWN2, just as you don't for GOG's NWN1.
Your 3 multiplayer keys are on your My Account bookshelf when you click on NWN2.
You can use the serial tool to change them.
