I recently installed the GOG version of NWN Diamond on Win8 64-bit and for some reason, when I try to load a savegame while I'm already playing a module I get the error message: "Could not load the Module. Could not unpack the module." When I return to the main menu and try again, it works fine though.

I never had that problem before, any idea what it could be related to? Some access violation or something perhaps?

First, check inside your Neverwinter Nights folder, and if you have either a folder or a file with the name 'currentgame', delete or rename it. Failing that, check your file and folder permissions for Neverwinter Nights

Sorry, I didn't notice your reply. I didn't find "currentgame", but I noticed there's a write protection on all NWN folders. Not on the files stored within them though and further research revealed that all my folders on C:/ seem to be write protected for some reason, so maybe that's normal for Win8? (I don't have any issues with any of the countless other games installed on C:/.) Also, when I remove the write protection and check the properties again afterwards, the folders are still protected. It doesn't give out any warnings or error messages but it won't permanently change the folder permissions either. :/

Yeah, Windows 7 (and I presume 8) has this odd behaviour of showing folders as read only no matter what you do. It's 'normal', if it can be called 'normal'. I'm not familiar with Windows 8, so maybe somebody else will see your question -- I can't think of anything else that would cause that error.

I tried to reproduce the issue and didn't succeed, so either it only occurs in very special circumstances, like after my PC died, or it was specific to one or two particular modules, or the NWN folder was really write protected (which is a possibility because I recently copied lots of files from an external harddisk into it) and my messing around with the folder properties solved the problem, even though Win8 is still showing the folder as read only.

In any case, it seems I can close the thread for now. Thanks a lot for your help! :)
