The game crashes immediately after the opening video. I'm using an XP computer and have tried the following solutions:

-Downloading the critical 1.69 patch
-Running the program from the main .exe file instead of the one all the shortcuts are linked to
-Updating my drivers

My download was not corrupt that I know of, although I tried redownloading just in case. Any suggestions? Help on this would be appreciated, as I've been very eager to try out this game. Thanks in advance.

GOG has fixed the setup files so If you've downloaded the game in the last few days you don't need to install the critical rebuild patch.

Have you tried disabling the opening movies ? Add the line

Disable Intro Movies=1

in "[Display Options]" in nwn.ini.

Ah, I feel silly for forgetting that. Just tried it out, and it almost works. I can go through character creation, but the screen goes black after that and nothing happens. I can't even use the Windows key or control+alt+delete. Waiting it out and trying a second time didn't work either. Still, things are moving in the right direction.

If you have an ATI card you could check this thread :

You might also try setting SafeMovie=1, also under [Display Options] in nwn.ini
Yeah SafeMovie=1 is better than disabling them completely. That way you can still watch the videos.
Well, this is funny. Neither safemode nor disableintrovideo are effective by themselves, but together they actually worked. The sound is choppy and the video is painfully slow, but the game itself is working just fine. If anyone has any ideas how I could make the movies run more smoothly I'd like to hear them, but otherwise I think my problem's been solved. You guys were very helpful. Thanks again.

If you are not already using it, try changing the audio device in options to Miles Fast 2D Positional audio.
