I've been playing the OC for a while, and it is starting to drag on. Is it worth continuing or should I go ahead to a full run of SoU, HotU, and Sands of Fate?

Well, I think it's worth it.

I completed the OC a few times.

However, if you're really not enjoying it you could try the other modules (or even some fan-made ones).

What sort of character (class, alignment etc) are you playing? Some modules are better for different types of characters. I tend to prefer playing Sorcerers for example.
I don't play single player at all....but I've heard that the expansions (SoU and HotU) are better than the OC.

Also there are many good player made modules on the vault...

I'm playing a Neutral Good Cleric. It's getting a little stretched out because my need to do all of the sidequests causes me to have to trek in the opposite direction from where I'm supposed to go. I just mostly want the XP.

And I know about the playermade modules, I just feel obligated to complete at least one of the official campaigns first.

Doing the side-quests certainly does help in the long run, the extra XP means the battles should never be too tough.

Cleric is probably one of the best ones to be, and given there aren't a lot of options for different alignments, good is probably the best choice too (I usually go for Chaotic Good, but it has little effect on the game).

Have you got a henchman with you? It can add something extra, but I think you share XP...

I do remember a lot of running about, which can be annoying. I recall that getting better in the later stages, but it's been a while since I finished it.
I played the OC back when nwn was released and liked it...until I played SOU and some of the fan made ones and realized how pointless and boring it was in comparison. Didn't play NWN at all for many years until last year when I picked up the diamond pack and tried out PW's...I was hooked anew and recently replayed HOTU and loved it.

My recommendation?Make a save game and then run SoU and see if you like that better, and if not try HoTU and Persistent World servers.
In my opinion the answer is a flat out no. I know some people like the OC and I really don't understand that. I guess some people just really like the combat in the game or something, because that's mostly what the OC is. Huge mazes full of combat broken up by some plot exposition which you can barely bring yourself to care about except when you're pissed off by how stupid it is.
I just finished the first chapter of the OC. It was pretty underwhelming. The story itself was pretty lackluster (go into these four dungeons and collect four items), and as a wizard I have mostly been able to get by using just 2 spells (fireball and ice storm) plus a tank for a henchman. Once I had enough experience (i.e., in three of the four dungeons), the boss monsters were a bit of a joke to kill. It seems to me that a better-designed campaign would force me to use more variety/tactics to succeed.

I pretty much never need to take advantage of the "pause" feature. The combat is fairly brain-dead.

Also, while I assume it's part of the D&D rule set, I find the constant "resting" to be a silly mechanism. Oh no! I'm mortally wounded and so is my henchman, and I have used all my spells! But I'll just sit here for 10 seconds and everything will be OK. Oh wait, it won't let me sit here, so I'll move 10 feet and sit there instead. There, all better.

Yes, drinking potions to accomplish the same thing (as in Diablo and its ilk) is equally silly, but without the pointless 10-second "time out". And at least you have to work a bit to find or buy potions.

I'll still finish the OC, though, just in case it gets more interesting.

The OC does pick up after you cure the plague, places get more interesting, more varied enemies and the like. Still not spectacular but better
I agree, the OC is not some of the best writing that Bioware's ever churned out. There are spots where the dialog is rather weak, and the level design could be a bit better overall.

But it's a good way to learn the game mechanics.

There's one thing I really love about the OC, and that is the special chests scattered throughout the game that give you a random weapon suited (more or less) to your class and weapon specializations. This one detail really boosts the replayability of the OC. Often while playing Bioware's more recent games I've found myself wishing they'd used this technique to extend their replayability as well.
Agreed, the OC is pretty bland compared to SoU and HotU, and it is mostly combat. I think if you enjoy the basic style of NWN gameplay, combat, and character customization then you will still in ejnoy the OC. (I did)

If you are really much more into roleplaying and story, then the OC may not be for you. Just ditch it and go with HotU or start downloading the Hall of Fame modules.

However I will say this: The OC is made a little more interesting if you just give your character a Charisma of 18 (via cheats or otherwise) and keep your Persuade skills up. For some reason, you actually get more story in your game when you have Persuade (characters tell you stuff they didn't want to before). Also be sure to keep having conversations with Aribeth whenever possible, it may change the ending you get (hint hint :).

The original OC isn't to bad. I liked it a lot. Later on I changed the OC more to my liking in using the ts and "melted" it from 6-7 Chapters in to 3 only. Full functional including custom hak and the "deleted" option with Aribeth's Ring.

I also changed SOU and HotU. Mephi I made him to serve me as my Chambermaid! Serves him right!

Na, the OC is fun in my opinion. Enjoy!

hehe I used to read diary and reorganizing quickslots during the rest-pause :-D
Yeah, I liked much of the OC. Partly because I'd played KotOR before NWN and it was fun seeing how bits of the plot were later recycled (kotor was quite a bit better though).

OC does start a bit weak and ends with humongous amounts of hacking&slashing, but there are bright spots in between.

Chapter 2 was probably my favourite and the last chapter(s) the least fun. Snowglobe and the village trapped in hell were particular favourites. I think chapter 3 was pretty decent also, but not sure.

SoU had it's down to earth charm and a somewhat coherent plot, but all in all I found it the weakest of the official campaigns.

HotU was probably the best official product, if you like high level gaming with epic weapons and demons and stuff for opponents. Nothing down to earth or realistic there. Pure epic high fantasy.

You'll probably want to bring your character from either OC or SoU to HotU. You can start with a new one, but it's more fun with a familiar character.
I hated the OC. If you want to start a character from level 1 I'd suggest starting with SoU and then moving on to HotU.

Better yet, look into some multiplayer. Multiplayer is a lot more fun than soloing. Especially if you can find a good DM/Builder.
