So I got the game december 1st and I played it for a while - no lag

So, when I started it today, after applying the critical rebuild because I didn't want silver skin it started lagging so much I'd rather have silver skin, so i uninstalled, and got back the original. Problem is, it still lags! As soon as I come to a screen where there's a red foglike thing in the background, it lags terribly, and the game itself is unplayable because of this!

I tried downgrading to 1.68, and it worked without lag, but I'm playing MP online, so I need the 1.69 version ..

Please help ?

I don't think that the critical rebuild was your problem, you can probably re-install that just fine.

I would recommend turning down the graphics settings, and possibly playing at a lower resolution. If you using windows 7, try disabling visual themes on the NWN .exe file.

The problem is, it can be caused by several things.
I had similar issue couple of times on different hardware configurations.
Once it was drivers issue, once I had to switch to windowed mode, and another time I had to fix CPU affinity.

You may also give BW forums a go.
And posting your system specs here wouldn't hurt either. ;)

It did work fine before the critical rebuild though, I'll try windows etc. and see how it goes!

EDIT: couldn't find windowed mode, cpu affinity didn't help, updated drivers didn't help. I just can't find a solution to this.

are you sure you encountered the red foglike things before you installed the rebuild? Might just be that fog effects always cause lag on your machine, regardless of the game version (I know it does for me).

To access Windowed mode, open nwn.ini and under [Config] add the following lines:

FullScreen=0
AllowWindowedMode=1

I saw the fog before, but it ran smooth, after the rebuild it lags from where i see the fog untill i shut off the game.

And I'll try windowed, playing on 1.68 for now ;)

What video card do you have in your machine?

If you can, Try turning down driver optimizations in your video card's configuration.

The game is not broken. Yeah it has compatibility issues with Win7... but they can be fixed with the right tweaking. I run it just fine on my Win7 laptop.
