I'm trying to install a mod called NO SHOW HELMS - subrace compatible. The problem is that I don't know how to install it, and the readme doesn't explain anything. It says I need to use a "widget" to hide my helmet, but I don't know what a widget is, how I'm supposed to get it, or how I use it once I have it. I also don't know what to do with the files. I tried installing the .mod file into the Modules folder, but that didn't seem to do anything. I'm new to modding NWN, so I'm a bit lost here.

Alright, I think the problem is that this is actually for someone running a module of their own, IE a custom campaign. However, you can install the .erf file into each mod you have, but it will require changing of scripts as well so unless you know scripting really well, I would be careful with installing this as you could potentially ruin your NWN install.
Okay, thanks for the help. You'd think a simple mod to hide helmets wouldn't be so hard to find, but apparently not.
Yeah I know and believe me as a longtime NWNer it's something virtually every server I've played on or friends have played on has dealt with, and very few implement the script.

Don't forget to mark my answer as the solution, unless you want to wait for someone with more programming knowledge to get back to you. Good luck!:)
The thing to realize is that in NWN a "module" is something like Chapter 1, 2, and 3 of a campaign. Hence .mod files. Every .mod file is something you actually *play* and does not affect the official campaigns. NWN isn't like most games where the official campaign is THE big deal and you modify the official campaign, but rather you play entirely new user created content.

Aside from a few things you can put in your *override* folder, all "modding" resources are things for builders to use in their OWN modules. If you know how then you COULD modify the official campaigns or user created campaigns, but you need to be careful that you don't mess anything up. The official campaigns are only like 1% of NWN's content and there are many custom campaigns SIGNIFICANTLY better than any of the official ones. Plus dozens (hundreds?) of online worlds that are basically MMOs except with a playerbase of dozens to hundreds rather than dozens of thousands.

But the question the becomes "how many people do you actually need on a server community?" The answer, as you might guess, is not 5,000 or something.
I don't know which of the two games you're playing, but if it's NWN2, you can use Charlie's Item Appearance Changer, which is a mod for players to use in a game in progress, to change your helm into either a headband or an invisible helm.
Search again, but this time look for an "override" rather than a "mod".
