so I have a saved game after some time of playing around, and when I went back in to load the game, the game crashed.

Also, try to turn off shiny water if you haven't. That can have an effect.

also how do I turn shiny water off? is it in the video options?

and one last question, what graphics mods are there? like high res textures etc.

I forgot about the screenshot idea. That is a major one.

In your case, both your portrait and your screenshot were corrupted.

In your save directory, you can fix it by just deleting screen.tga and portrait.tga

(your portrait is lost, I'm afraid -- but if you have another portrait file from another save, you might be able to replace it by just dragging its save's portrait.tga to the save file's portrait.tga. I'm not sure, though -- never tried it.)

I wasn't able to load my Savegame because of some unnokwn bugs. So i searched the forums for a pretty long time and was near to give it up. I tried to delete the screenshots and portraits from the save files, but nothing would help me until i read your advice to try to turn off shiny water.... and voila - everythings working fine, at least for now. :'D
