Hello Everybody,

I recently picked up NWN2 as part of the amazing DnD bundle. I originally played NWN2 years ago, and still own my discs for both the original and both of the expansions, but I'm feeling the urge to play again.

Trying to save my poor, overworked internet connection from the slow, demoralizing slog of a 7gb download, I instead chose to dust off my old DVDs and re-installed that way. Problem is, I am now met with a bug where, despite high FPS, the characters stutter and jump whenever they move or act. A quick Google search turned up a few possible fixes, none of which have worked for me, and numerous complaints from others who seem to be in a similar bind.

I haven't searched in depth, but there doesn't seem to be any similar complains on the GOG board. Is this bug present in the GOG version of NWN2?

If so, does anybody know a foolproof way to fix it?

If not, it seems unlikely, but is there any way to update my disc based installation to the GOG version without downloading the entire package? I am using Windows 8, if that makes any difference, and can provide specs if necessary.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I also own the Complete disc set - Have you used the NWN2 Updater? It will take some time if I remember correctly there are a ton of updates to the disc based games. Sorry I am running under Vista 64 and not 8 so any OS issues I can not help you with.

The updater ran fine, so I don't think patches were the problem.

I'm going to keep looking for a solution, will post if I find one for others.
I was suffering from the same issue (GoG version) and none of the fixes really worked for me, but I did find a post where someone suggested using NW2 Client Extension which fixed the issue for me.

Just wanted to say thank you. I had installed and then spent some time adding mods. I could not figure out with 60 fps solid and low GPU usage whenever I moved it stuttered as bad as anything. I was about to give up when I read this thread and downloaded that client update thing. I wonder what it did to fix the issue? I am running windows 10 and a GTX 1080.
Just installed the clinet extension thing whatever. Holy crap gameplay if finally smooth. Thanks!!!
I have now installed this and I opened the game via NWLauncher.exe, but the stuttering remains. Any idea?

Came looking for a solution to exactly this problem. Thanks for the updated link. Just downloaded. Will try it out a little later tonight.

Did it work for you? It did not work for me.

EDIT: Sorry, it does work. I was opening the old NWN2Launcher.exe when I should have been using NWLauncher.exe. When I use the Client Extension launcher it works perfectly.

Thanks for this. Having the same issue. Just to make it crystal clear:

1. Download the client extension from the link posted above
2. Copy the contents of the downloaded folder to the NWN2 folder (located in your gog games folder)
3. Run hdlinstall
4. Run the game by double-clicking on NWLauncher.exe

worked for me! Thanks again

The downside to using the client extension is that it makes the game unstable and prone to CTDs.

That hasn't been my experience, and I've been using it for years. The game almost never crashes.

If you don't like the Client Extension there is a lightweight solution that someone did for Jade Empire. It works in several games that have this fault, including NWN 2.

Just drop this DLL into your game directory:
https://bitbucket.org/fk/jade-empire-stutter-fix/downloads/

Discussed here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/jade_empire_special_edition/stuttering_fix

I use it, and once you drop the DLL in your game directory, you just launch the game as normal, it changes nothing but this one bug. Simple and lightweight.

Having the same issue too, using GTX 1070 on windows 10, I am about to find out how can I refund the game, yet I fond these posts, need to try the fix tonight, hope it works...

Thanks you guys, NWN series are really good ones.
