I just finished HOTU. It was pretty good, but it looks like something weird happened. I seem to have ended up with both Nathyrra AND Aribeth as my lovers. Both of their epilogues mentioned their relationship with me and both of them talked about it in the dialogue with Mephistopheles.

I've read that this is actually possible, i.e. not a bug, but there's supposed to be a persuade check about it, and that never happened for me. In fact, there's apparently a lot of dialogue for each of them that I never saw. I got one scene where Aribeth said she could see why I liked Nathyrra so much and promised she wasn't going to interfere with that. Then she started flirting with me when the mimic stole my clothes. She never did anything like that afterward, but suddenly I'm her lover at the end. It was also her and not Nathyrra who wanted to talk to me right before going through the portal to Waterdeep.

I won't complain about the end result (lol), but it looks like I missed a lot of dialogue, and that's disappointing for an RPG. I'm not really sure how I could have missed it, either. I took Aribeth along as soon as I thawed her and stuck with her and Nathyrra for the rest of the game. I always talked to them when they approached me. I would think that would mean I'd see all of their dialogue, especially the dialogue they have with each other, but apparently not.

So did I do something wrong here? I have two mods installed, but one of them just makes the font bigger and the other gives you more options to tweak your gear's appearance, so I don't see how they could affect something like this. Or is this just something that can happen if you get unlucky with dialogue triggers or something?
NWN1's dialogue triggers are notoriously finicky. It's worse in user-made mods, but even in the OCs this problem rears its ugly head.

Basically, when an NPC initiates dialogue with you, the game does not get paused in any way. So if you're busy running around, clicking the mouse to give orders, it's -very- easy to accidentally click dialogue away. You may not even notice it when you do.

Some modules, including some of the premium ones, fix this by putting special dialogue options in the standard NPC dialogue menu. "What were you trying to say, earlier?" and comments like that. I don't think HotU does this, though admittedly it's been a long time since I played.

It gets worse if your system is slow and the game lags a lot. In that case, all kinds of triggers can fail to fire or fire only after long delays. Back in the day when I had a cruddy graphics card and slow processor, HotU broke down on a semi-regular basis before giving up the ghost altogether in the big battle in the Underdark.

One big happy polygamous family eh?:)

I've done three full playthroughs of HOTU and had a fun experience with Nathhyra, Deekin, Valen, Tomi, and Linu. My favorite pairing was probably Tomi and Valen, though. I found Nath and Aribeth boring, personally, plus I always played Lawful Good Dwarves so romance with a Drow and a fallen paladin would have been extremely out-of-character:)
