Is it possible to edit/create game content like races/classes/feats/spells? If it is, which tools do I need to use?

Sure! That's what the Aurora Toolset is all about. It comes with Neverwinter Nights (1 & 2). It can be launched from the NWN Main Menu, OR from double-clicking on the nwntoolset.exe icon (looks like a little bell) in the Install Directory (I put a shortcut right on my desktop). There are several new enhancements/updates to the tool set available from the Neverwinter Nights Community site ( http://www.neverwinternights.info/ ). GOTO the 'Module Builders' or 'Custom Content Makers' sub-pages for more info including tutorials and handy-dandy programs to make your job much easier.

WARNING: To properly use the toolset, you will have to learn a whole new Language - the NWN Scripting Language. 'Lilac Soul's Script Generator v2.6 (LS-TK Script Generator [updated for NWN 1.69]) is a 'Must-Have' tool for this.

ANOTHER WARNING: Almost all of the scripts presented in the lists in the Aurora Toolset for the various places they are designed to be used (like OnSpawn, OnHeartbeat, etc.) are completly useless, and have nothing to do with the item in question. How would I know this? I Edited/Copied nearly all of the scripts into MS Word, so I could take a look at them. I got over 380 pages (in 10 pt type) before I finally gave up. Most of the scripts are well documented, so at least you know what they are doing, but are worthless for the places they are supposed to go.

If you are asking if you can change things WITHIN the main game - the answer is 'probably not'. A lot of the game is hard coded, and can't be changed. You will have to write a new module to do what you want to do. I have heard there are 'Cheats' available for the game, but haven't found any yet.

Hope this helps

NWN comes with the Aurora Toolset aka 'nwtoolset.exe' found in your NWN install folder and also can be launched from the NWN main program menu as 'Toolset'.

The scripting language that NWN uses is a subset of C language - so there are LOTS of reference material out there and quite a bit of it custom made for use with NWN. As noted there are even tools like 'Lilac Soul Script Generator' which can create basic scripts. You'll find a wealth of material (scripts, modules, haks, guides and more) in places like

neverwinternights.info

and

neverwintervault.org

...

To the poster who had trouble with viewing scripts in MS Word - MS Word can mangle programs (code, script, source code) and is not meant to be used as a scripting tool - so this may have inhibited your success. I know the scripts in the OC on all the creatures and objects are functional and not at all worthless, so I wonder if your viewing via MS Word may have skewed your opinion?

You can totally change stuff within the OC - pretty much anything is open to editing here (save only some game-internal functions like 'pick pocket', most anything can be scripted in NWN. I've spent the last 14 years buliding a NWN module - we have scripted systems for many things not possible in the OC; swimming, flying, climbing, jumping, squeezing through tight spaces, custom spells [many from D&D like Wish, Liveoak, Blink and more].

NWN is an AWESOME game engine and very prone to being modified. Come see what we've done, we can "talk shop" if you like.

(find me via the forum link there)

Our NWN server is 24x7 at

Hope to see you there!

Be well. Game on.
