I've bought NWN a few weeks ago and I wanted to play it today, but I have no luck.

I've installed it without any problems, I click on the game icon and the game immediately crashes to desktop.

The only thing I have changed is to change the game path from C:/Games/Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition to C:/Games/Neverwinter Nights

any ideas?

I'm using windows 7.

hey i recently installed the game it and it was crashing too , try running the game as administrator aka right click run as admin. Its better to set run as admin for all exes of the game in the properties.

i also found is wiki that suggests a lot of issues with the game and ways to fix it .

I tried the "run as admin" thing, but it crashes the same way and with the same speed.

I checked the wiki and treid the :+TestNewModule "123456"
approach but I couldn't add this line to the target, I get an error message saying that this is an invalid path.

Did you just change the location in Windows Explorer, or did you uninstall and reinstall? Your game location is stored in the Windows registry, and also in your game ini files. If you just moved your installation, then you are going to have issues.

I didn't "move" the inventory, I designated a different installation path.

If you didn't move the folder, why did you need to designate a different path? I'm confused!

I've installed it to a different path, it CtDs. I uninstalled it, reinstalled to the "original designated" path and it CtDs after i start it.

This is what you did not make plain in the beginning: that you uninstalled and reinstalled. You simply stated that you 'changed the game path', and that is what I was unclear on.

Now then, assuming the game is not installed to Program Files, do you have full admin rights to the current installation path? Also, do you have antivirus running? If you do, try disabling it while playing.

Also, be sure you are running nwmain.exe to get the game running. Don't run the launcher unless you want to try DM Client or Toolset.

I made the uninstall/reinstall after that post, I wasn't sure what you meant, so I did it, just in case.
I have full admin rights, to any and all install paths on this laptop. I uninstalled my antivirus programs, for this testing purpose and still doesn't run.

I tried all the different .exe's, especially nwmain.exe but none of them work (all of them crash at the same time aswell, just about 1 sec after I start them).

I checked the gog.com support and downloaded the mentioned directx files, but I have no idea where to place them (.cab files), I downloaded the installer aswell, but the installer has no preset installation path. But I have the latest directx anyway. I!m guessing that is not the problem.

Any more ideas?

Ok, right click on the shortcut to the game and select 'Properties'. Now go to the 'Compatibility' tab. Make sure you check the following:

* Run the program in compatibility mode for... Window XP (Service Pack 3)
* Disable Visual Themes
* Disable Desktop Composition

When you run the game like this, the desktop will switch to low colours, but will resume once you quit the game. Don't worry about that. This is how I have it running for Window 7 64 bit.

I tried running it in windows XP compatibility mode, it switched to low colours, but it still crashed. I didn't check the other two things.
