One thing I have always liked about NWN is the combat animations. For example, if the enemy swings at me the game seems to determine hit or miss and then displays a random animation - one for evasion, one for a parry, one for ducking the strike, etc. I wish more games did that. Like swinging my sword might be displayed as an overhead strike ("from the roof") or a middle cut or thrust. I dream of the day when I won't look at my screen and see my avatar swinging his weapon (same technique every time) at a dragon's toes, missing because he is 15 feet away, and register that as a critical hit that somehow did massive damage.

Yeah...the animations are really good. That is just one of the things that make NWN1 stick out from the rest.

However....the "swinging at the dragon's toes syndrome" could still be made better :-P
Speaking of those, this pack is awesome!
Alternate Combat Animations v4.0

Allows you to change your fighting style, barbarian style is my personal favourite.
Can be a bit tricky to install, but well worth the effort,

Purely a visual enhancement, no effect into the outcome of fights.
This made me think of this:
