Have you tried disabling the intro movie ?

Edit the nwn.ini file - locate the [display options] sections and add the line

Disable Intro Movies=1

Could you post some more info about your computer system?

If you're running an AMD/ATI video card, try disabling catalyst AI and see what that does.

Also try rolling back your drivers to version 12.1 ...12.2 and later currently have crappy support of OpenGL.

If you cannot successfully roll back to those drivers Google around for them. Then uninstall your card from the Device manager,uninstall your drivers COMPLETELY,then use a tool like Ccleaner from Pirisoft to clean any traces of the drivers from your registry, and finally reboot and do aclean install of the 12.1 drivers. Then do allof the compatability fixes.

Always a good idea to list system specs at times like this, including driver versions if possible.

Otherwise we're just shooting in the dark.

Q. You installed to the program file & your documents folder isn't on the c: drive?
A. Uninstall the game and reinstall to C:games/

Q. You have a behaviour monitor running?
A. Add NWN to the ignore list of your anti-virus program... Your crap anti-virus program doesn't allow you to do that? Get AVAST.

I disabled the intro movie and that didn't work, but then I told it to run in compatibility mode for windows 2000 and the game launched. I figured that might work since I remember playing the game on my dad's windows 2000 computer decades ago.

Yeah, my go-to solution for later Windows versions saying "screw you, I don't wanna run this game" is compatibility mode.
