My main questions are these (assume it's a level 40 question):
What AC bonus type is divine shield
What AC bonus type is improved expertise
Do the above two stack? If they're both dodge bonuses they're limited by the 20 cap yes?
How high can attack bonus get on a min maxed character/how high should AC be to counter an optimized attack bonus?

I'm tinkering with a more combat oriented build now and am having a particularly hard time finding out about expertise and in general what an optimized attack/AC really is. At least through google.

Divine Shield is a dodge bonus, and stacks to the 20 cap.
Improved Expertise is a trade-off AC bonus (+AC / -Attack)

You don't really want Improved Expertise unless your combat technique is tanking.

When you say it's a trade-off AC bonus does that mean it's untyped/uncapped?

Tanking as an option may be something I want the character to have (I can always not use it at a given time).

Also, what is the monk wis->AC bonus. Untyped or dodged?

Mostly I'm looking for the best way to get an untouchable character. From there I'll start letting it go down while I work on boosting offense till I find the right balance.

Yes, Expertise/Improved Expertise is unclassed and uncapped. Same for Monk. See 'Other' in this link.

Dodge.

No type, stacks with everything.

They stack, Divine Shield is subject to 20 dodge AC cap. Which also means that if you have, say, Haste and boots with +5 Dodge AC that you cannot get more than 11 AC from Divine Shield.

An Arcane Archer can get 88 AB (89 in melee range).

A Strength Weapon Master can get 78 AB (give or take an AB or two depending on race/build).

A Strength Fighter can get 72 AB (give or take an AB or two depending on race/build).

But that's assuming +20 AB from magical sources and thus the real answer is entirely environment dependent. If the best weapons on the world are +5 enhancement and no buffing potions are freely available, then you'd need to subtract 15 from each of the above examples.

Because the answer is completely dependent on the campaign or persistent world -- especially since many campaigns and online worlds modify the default rules (because many of the default rules are horribly unbalanced).
