servar: I had the exact same problem. I have an ATI card and the game crashed as soon as I started it; tried
adding that .dll, atioglxx, and it worked but everything ran at a very low frame rate.
Then I found this ridiculous solution that has worked perfectly for me so far. I reinstalled the
game (no .dll this time) and renamed the file "nwmain.exe" to "nwmain_game.exe".
Hope this is helpful for others, too.
Does this fix the shiny water flicker issue as well for ATI cards
Not sure give it a shot i mean mine is running smooth everything maxed out with shiny water on so i dont see why it wouldnt

I renamed nwmain to nwmain_game as suggested, I couldn't enable the shiny water, game crashed to desktop.
I had to also disable Enviroment Mapping on Creatures or everyone was invisible. ATI card 7870
I was running the game in compatibility mode for XP SP3, before giving the above a try, but the shiny water would just flicker and bug out. Thanks though, I'll have another play around with it on the weekend.
