Your background story:

Everyone in the group is appox 23 years old. You live in a very civilized and peaceful time period, devoid of magic -- though you're taught at a young age that magic does exist, but is rarely seen.

After your state-mandated schooling finished at the age of 18, you set off on your own destiny. You're looking for work and maybe even love.

When you return to your home town of Lazareth for your 5-year reunion, you meet up with your friends. Some are wildly successful already, some not so much. But one of your more flamboyant friends, Edward, was already a famous adventurer. While at the party, he spoke vividly about the sights he had seen: giants in the snowy mountains, criminals in the desert underground and creatures devoid of shape in the swamps.

At some point during the party, he pulls you and your closest friends aside and tells you about a map he found after he sneaked through a pirate raid on Baywatch -- a town far to the northeast.

"I'll need help," he says. "I'll need all of you guys. The treasure is protected by many traps and immortal guardians. But if we can get past them all, then we will own an ancient wizard's armory of magical equipment. Just think of what we could do with it. We could arm justice and law. Or we could use it ourselves and make a name for ourselves. Just imagine!"

Indeed, your imagination soars. And you all agree to help him find it.

He slips the map into his boot and says "Meet me at the southern foothills in three days' time. Bring all you can imagine for a grand adventure!"

You can't wait!

Everyone playing should write up the following over the next few weeks:

1) Name
2) Gender
3) Race (Only Human, Dwarf, Half-Elf, Halfling and Gnome allowed, no elves or half-orcs [elves and half-orcs are not permitted into society in this time period, so you wouldn't be able to go to school as such])
4) Class (may only choose: Barbarian, Fighter, Monk, Ranger, Rogue -- no magic or divine classes allowed for this campaign, but magical options will open up later in the campaign)
5) What has your character been doing these past 5 years?

**********************

You'll reach level 4 or 5ish by the time we finish the campaign. So plan for a character with strong role-play value and the ability to mitigate many different types of challenges while still able to bring something unique to the team. Talk among yourselves so you don't overlap strengths (4 barbarians will not help much).

If you have any questions, ask away!

erh, the Ranger will be capped of his spells? or you are betting the fact of the low levels? (Be careful, at level 4 the ranger can have at least one 1 level spell slot available by means of Wisdom)

Plus, there is a place where we can check the cosmology or the near lands? (For defining by example from which tribes/forest come the barbarian or the ranger).

I considered not having the ranger, but I'm pretty sure he'll fit in just fine by the time we reach level 4.

The wildest places in the world would be:
The mountains and desert in the northwest (giants and dragons up there)
The foothills (where the lava is on the map -- no lava in our game) (dwarves make their homes there in the mines)
The swamps near the large lake near Northville (which I think is called Rainbow Lake, but I can't remember :D)

The forest east of Thorn (town south of Lazareth) is called "The Magical Forest" by some. That's where the elves live. They call themselves "Treepeople." Occasionally, one is evicted and enters civilization, but it's so rare that you'll usually only find a half-elf in the land.

All of the characters went to school in Lazareth, so they would know city-life well. IF you're a barbarian, then perhaps after school, you may have gone to be with your family living in the forest north or west of Lazareth where many goblins and orcs hang out. But you would have spent your days in the city being taught by instructors much like today.

Think of the time period as a more modern era, on the verge of renaissance.

After you turned 18 and are set out into the world, you may have chosen the life of a barbarian or a ranger. So you may be a city-kid but a nature-kid at heart. And so you set off on your destiny in the wilderness -- but always remembering your roots.

If I were playing a barbarian, I think, for the sake of the story, I'd have left home at the age of 18 and went to live on my own in the forests west of Lazareth. Perhaps you want to live on your own but you also want to slay some lousy orcs and goblins for one reason or another.

If I were playing a ranger, I'd have my family in Lazareth and then go set off south of Lazareth and protect the lands near the Magical Forest. Protect people from entering the dangerous forest and also protect the species there from overhunting. Also, they tend to have unholy things going on there -- undead and whatnot. So you could protect nature from them.

I hope that helps. If you need more insight, let me know.
Hmm... I'm interested but there's no way I could make any of those time slots. My time zone is GMT-8 (Pacific) so those times are 5:00-7:00 in my time zone. Way too early in the morning on the AM side, while right on top of my commute on the evening side. Given that there's an enormous ocean to my west there probably aren't many people asking for a later time slot, but for the record I'd play if it were on offer.
Tallima-thanks for the PM about this:) Assuming that time, real life, and other errata permits I would be interested in such a campaign.

Excellent!

Tallima: Excellent!
:)

Based on the times suggested I should be able to commit to at least one of the weeknights but not Saturdays unfortunately. It's been awhile since I played with the DMFI stuff and DM client in general but I could also potentially help if you were unable to make it for a session.Of course given "unintentional metagaming" from even the best-intentioned folks I fully understand if you'd prefer that players don't dm and vice versa.

I think it'll have to be the Saturday morning play time. The weeknights just didn't work for a lot of the other guys. Also, I don't think I have DMFI in my module. But like last time, it's not the final version and I'm not 100% sure what's in there. :)
I don't think I mentioned it anywhere. The reason for the brief summary of where you've been in the past 5 years is to:

A) Know your character for RP reasons
B) So I know your character for RP reasons
C) So I can pre-build you equipment that you'd have with you.

Be sure to build an interesting character so I can build you some interesting gear!
I can't even remember the last time we all played Leefe together Tal. If i'm thinking right it's where I had Garet Malstorn. Or was his last name Maelstrom. I forget but I remember having a Sentient Evil sword. Jeez i'd of been in my teens then :p. I think I even remember helping you out as an assistant DM from time to time just to help prepare areas and things while you RP'd with the players

I have huge holes in my memory too. Long time ago. :) I'm trying to figure out who you are. Either Nero or Yuan, I'd say. I'm going to go with Nero. Want to play in a few weeks for a few weeks?

Wait. Nope. Now I'm going with Yuan. Nero was from Georgia. Is it you Yuan? Tell me or I will surely die!

My old system administrator is AWESOME!!! He just sent me a dropbox link with what looks like all of the best and latest Leefe files. Time to start testing them out!

Awesome! Good to see you again Yuan (virtually anyway :D). Chrols (the old system admin) might be able to play, too.

I kept in touch with WingedCat for quite some time, too. But I haven't heard from him in a while. And of course Ayudria is around (he's my brotha) but he works Saturday mornings.
It'll be nice to have a reason to play NWN again since It's been a few years since I last played. I think I even still got NWN Diamond installed on this laptop. Lately i've been indecisive as to what games to play so even having a once a week NWN RP experience will be great
We're playing Neverwinter Nights!

Here's when we're playing:
Saturday, February 28th, 7a-9a

And we'll play for at least 2 weeks, but it may take 3 or 4.

Who is playing?

There's been a lot of maybes, but few "yeses." And we had an iffy time. So please confirm to me that you are playing.
