So, today I saw that the Movies section has been renamed in Movies for Gamers. I know that the Movies section has been stagnant with very few titles since its creation, but with all the wishlist entries I guess I'm not the only one who hoped to gather an honest and genuine DRM-free video collection. GOG, I hope you don't give up hope in this.

Yes, they recently answered that question in the Q/A on Reddit:
"Unfortunately, movie business is much more different than the gaming one, and brings different obstacles to obtain the content, for example most of TV series are produced exclusively for certain services. Keeping that in mind, for now we’ve decided to focus on games, as that’s what the majority of our community is asking us to concentrate on, and thus movies are not a priority for us."

Unless someone approaches GOG and wants to bring films and shows here, I don't expect GOG to get anything for the next few years at least. In the meantime, I've been taking my DVDs and Blu-Rays and turning them into DRM-free videos. I hope that major DRM-free movies and shows will be an option on GOG someday, because making the videos manually is kind of a PITA.

Thank you for the interesting reading, SCPM. That's too bad. Yes, also I can take my DVDs and BluRays and rip them to have an almost genuine collection (there's no need to discuss about other ways to get digital copies here), but for movies I don't own this means getting a physical copy which defeats the purpose of getting them on a digital store. Ok, let's put this little dream in a drawer for now, maybe someday we'll be able to undust it :)

I wonder if we, as a community, could try to "bother" film distributors to try to sell their movies on GOG, as some people do with games developers/distributors. I, along with many others in the Ouya Forum community used to ask to indie developers to bring their games to the Ouya when it was active, and sometimes it worked. This could start from some indie filmmakers. Big maybe.

It's worth a shot, particularly with indie filmmakers and producers, since their distribution rights situation is probably not as complex as major studios. When GOG originally unveiled the movies section, I did try to reach out to some indie publishers with no luck. I know GOG also mentioned at the time that the studios were not completely closed from the idea, but their lawyers didn't like it, and none of the studios wanted to be the first to take the chance. I think Lionsgate studios was probably the one they would have come closest to working out a deal with, but even then much of their catalog probably would have been restricted to the U.S. As you say, I hope it's something that can be revisited in the future.
