InfiniteClouds: Stats do seem pretty important though... I was getting wrecked by the Gray Minotaur and his crew and couldn't beat them until I pumped my Paladin and Knight full of Might Potions.

Oh and thanks for pointing that out about the fountain. I had thought the XP would be distributed evenly to all party members! Next time I will Gather Gold on my spellcasters.

Is there a max for stats, BTW? I thought it was going to be 30 for 'base' but the fountains seem to push me even beyond that and I don't want to break the game by going too high.
The maximum is probably 255 (the most that can be expressed in a single byte). Be aware that trying to push a stat above the cap may result in integer overflow, depending on the method used and how careful the programer who was writing that part of the code was.

Of course, there's no guarantee that it will be feasable to get stats that high.

(By the way, Might & Magic 2 is inconsistent about what overflows and what doesn't. Later games (at least 3 through 5) were more careful about overflow (but see my Half for Me topic for a way to overflow HP in 3)).

I thought I read somewhere that the max for stats in MM1 was a lot lower than that. But I'm not sure.
