I downloaded the installer over the course of several days using the downloader program. Now whenever I try to run it I get a message saying "Privileged instruction" and another one telling me the program had to be closed. However the process is still running and taking up an entire CPU core until I kill it manually in the task manager. I'm running on Windows 7 64 bit. Compatibility modes and Run As Administrator did not help.

I don't really have the capabilities to just redownload it any time soon, is there a way I can play this?

I did not see any mention of disabling User Account Control. For Windows 7 64 bit, I've read that Windows XP Mode may be a solution. You may have to download the XP Mode from Microsoft's site.
^ Yes, 'but Privileged instruction' is not a typical error in such cases.

If the file doesn't even pass the integrity check then it's probably (unfortunately) corrupt. What size is that downloaded installer?
Also, do you have any AV programs running?
Yeah, the surefire way to test this would be to redownload, but if you can't at the moment you may as well try disabling User Account Control and see if that helps. Also, when did you actually download the file? I thought that the GOG downloader program was actually down for maintenance at the moment and may not be working properly. In some other places on the forums people have had trouble when using third-party download managers to download games from GOG and solved their problems by simply using their browser to download. If you are able to try that it might be worth it.

I was unaware of it being down as I downloaded the manager last Sunday. Then I used it to download the game in several sessions during the time from Sunday to Tuesday. According to the program the download finished. Disabling UAC did not help either.

The file is 553mb and I'm using Avira AntiVir Personal.

I'll give Windows XP mode a try then.

edit: XP mode tells me "Privileged Instruction" too

Yeah, nevermind, looks like it's back up. If your problems persist you could try downloading in your browser if you can, though.

I also use Avira AntiVir Personal and haven't had any issues with GOG installers so it's probably not that. My best bet is that downloading again will fix your issue, sorry I can't be more helpful!

- Can you test it on any other computer?
- Are you able to use any other GOG installers? (you can download something small, like Lure of the Temptress). Because if this is single case with M&M, the problem should be with the file itself.

To my knowledge, GOG packs their games in similar way and there should be no difference between installers regarding required access level.

All the other installers I have work fine, however those were downloaded straight in one go through my browser using a better connection to the internet.

I think I'll just wait until I get proper access again and redownload as it seems to be a corrupted download then. Thanks everyone for the help though!

You say you donwloaded the installer with gog's downloader, right ?

Have you gone to the folder where the downloader stores the installer files and made sure your installer file for MM has the proper .exe extension ? Sometimes the downloader has problems with extensions on files and an .exe file can become a .gogdownload file, and in that case the installer won't work and is prone to throw all kind of errors. If that's the case replacing the .gogdownload extension for .exe will likely solve the problem.
Since you're still stuck with this problem, try posting on the TELP Taverns at: http://telp.org/mm6/tavern/mm6tavern.html

There may be somebody there who can provide a solution.

I'm not sure what you mean by "where it stores the installer files". I assumed you meant some sort of temporary folder? I couldn't find that, besides, wouldn't that likely be already deleted? The installer file I have been trying to use very obviously is an .exe.

I meant the folder where the files downloaded with gog's downloader end up on your pc.

In any case, if the file you have is an .exe than there's something else going on with the file, maybe it's corrupt, and what i said it's not relevant.
Are you telling it to run it instead of save it? That might be it.

It downloaded one file, the installer in question.

Run/save? Telling what to run or save what? I am running the file from the windows explorer like any other file.

I think he's referring to the options you get when downloading the file using a browser... usually it asks if you want to "run" the file or "save" it. Choosing "run" will download the file and immediately run it but sometimes that causes problems, so choosing "save" is usually better. Sounds like this probably isn't your problem though, since you used the downloader and you are running the file through Windows Explorer anyway.
