I have a game of MM6 installed and once I get past the character creation screen, I cannot move using the arrow keys. The mouse works fine, I can open the menus, but I cannot get the characters to move.

When I first installed the game it worked great, until after my first save. I got up to level 4, no problems. After the save something happened - I've tried reinstalling, I've even tried installing from my original discs but I can't move now.

Perhaps there's something in Windows 7 that's saved in a corrupted state? I tried deleting all registry entries related to MM6 before reinstalling and starting over again, but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

Setup:
Win7 Home Premium, SP1 64-bit
NVidia GeForce GT 540M
MM1-6 pack from Gog installed
GrayFace patch (I've tried without it, doesn't seem to make a difference)
I'm running MM6 on a Win7 ultimate 64-bit with no issues whatsoever.

I would uninstall dosbox along with MM6 and then re-install MM6 (it should install dosbox for you). My guess would be an issue with dosbox rather than MM6 or win7.
I don't think MM6 uses DOSBox, so that's not likely to be the problem.

Are you stuck in turn-based mode? Hitting Enter will toggle between real-time and turn-based. While in turn-based mode you can't move.

If that's not the problem, then try installing the game to somewhere OTHER than Program Files, to avoid permissions problems in Windows 7. Also make sure you install and run the game as admin.
re: Waltorious

I've tried reinstalling several times, in different locations, and I get the same behavior. I'm wondering if something went wrong that only reinstalling Windows may fix, since the game worked for a few hours before it stopped entirely. I've been playing MM7 with no problems.

Thanks for replying!

That is really odd, and might be an issue specific to MM6. Unfortunately I'm not an expert at troubleshooting MM6, so maybe someone else here can help?

What exactly happens when you run the game? Are you unable to move at all, or can you turn but not move forwards or backwards? Is time progressing in the game or is it totally frozen? Can you access menus and stuff?

Have you tried applying Greyface's patch? There's info in the sticky thread in this forum.

The game starts as normal, I setup a group and then I end up in town. Unfortunately I'm immediately stuck in place, cannot even move the first step. I can turn around, time continues, and menus are all accessible.

When I open my saved game I'm stuck at the last place I stood, which is in the first town by the Training School. When I create a new game I'm stuck at the entrance of the town.

I've used the game on my previous laptop, which had Vista Home Premium and it worked fine. I've tried re-installing MM6 with the Grayface patch and without it, neither makes a difference. I guess I'll give up on it for now and play through the others, then next time I reinstall Windows I'll try again.
