I have a serious issue with the text in the game, it speeds through three or four screens of text in about two seconds without me pushing any keys at all. I've tried running as admin, but that didn't work. I hope someone can help me with this problem.

You could try editing the DOSBOX settings - there are suggestions in this thread

Or just download the newest version of DOSBox and overwrite the version that installed with the game.
I got the latest DosBox and it still didn't help. What I have to do is reduce cycles to ~300 and then it works ok... still to fast in some places but I can manage.

If none of this works, there is a user made patch that can be found here.

The fan patch is definitely better than reducing cycles, as reducing cycles slows down the rest of the game as well, but the newest version of DOSBox does help some people so it should be what is tried first.

Just figured I'd add my voice to those recommending the fan patch. It's great. I played MM1 before the latest DOSBox version was released and I had to lower the cycles considerably which made the whole game really slow. Then I found out about the patch, and it was awesome. I could raise the cycles back to normal and text was perfectly readable.

Also, remember that there's a text speed in the game options. In-game, you should set the speed to the slowest possible.

Finally, there are a few, rare instances when the text is still fast after using the patch. These are not very important... they are things like the message telling you that monsters have surprised you.... this will flash by and then you will be in battle. But it's not too hard to figure out what happened. All battle text and other text (like when talking to someone) is slow enough to read. Well actually I think when an enemy passes its turn (i.e. does nothing that turn in combat) that also goes by quickly. But again it's easy to tell what happened.
The patch refuses to download, I go to the Mediafire page and click "start download" but it won't work, so I guess editing the DOSBox settings will have to do, thanks for all the help everyone!

or you can edit the exe yourself with a hex-editor.
EDIT: Here is what you need to change
