Two problems...

1st.... only one Signal fire, around Harmondale, lights. I've tried lighting all three... in three different orders, but only one lights....No big deal with this one...

But, the Priest of Dark is a game breaker. After completing the quest, only ONE character is promoted to Priest of Dark. I went back to the "defiled" temple, and tried to have the other characters touch the alter, but it made no difference since it had already been defiled.

This means only one character can learn Dark Magic.... and only ONE character shows up as Priest of Dark. The other three have not been promoted. Nothing I try triggers the other three to become Priests...

Going back to the quest giver, does no good.

The patches didn't help either....I've played this MM at least 5 times .. twice on the Path of Dark... with the disc version this did not happen...

Anybody have an idea....thanks

I don't know about the Priest of Dark, but I had the same bug with the signal fires. Then I realised that, when you click on the wood prepared for fire, the game flags it as "lit", even though it doesn't show the lit animation. Do this with all three fires, but the goblins won't show up until you reset the map. To do that, just enter your castle in Harmondale then exit it back to the outdoor map again. Go to the large clearing on a hill due south of the town and you should encounter a fresh goblin army.

Thanks... goblins galore... no fire, but lots of goblins..

Priest of Dark is a game breaker for me... need the heavy damage "dark" spells to play the way I like to play...

So you're playing with a party of Clerics?

I have to say I've never found or heard of this bug, but that's probably because not many people play with an entire party of Clerics, or probably even more than one...
It shouldn't matter who touches the altar. As long as the quest conditions are met (altar=defiled), the quest giver should promote all your clerics to Priests of Dark, and all other classes to honorary priests of dark. That's at least how it goes with the light quest counterpart, and all other promotion quests. If there's a working save game editor, perhaps you could cheat your way around that bug. Or reload just before the point of promotion and repeat the part when you return to the quest giver several times. It may be that your other cleric's status ailment somehow interferes with the promotion.

Hi.... thanks for the suggestions.... Nothing is working.... And, up till now, even in the GOG version, all promotion quests worked the way you stated...

Played this game from disc, many times.... Twice on the Path of Dark.... this is a new bug I haven't encountered in any other play throughs.

My party consists of one Cleric and three Wizards.... Only the Cleric has been promoted to Priest of Dark..the Wizards didn't even get honorary.

My characters all have the same status....Since my party is all Magic users.... Dark Magic is very important.

Sadly, I didn't go back to the quest giver right after defilying the temple.... I spent many hours level building... including clearing Thunderfist...

Since I know the game by heart... I don't think I'll reload from an old save.... I'll probably go play Zeen again...

Thanks for your thoughts....

But, any other suggestions are welcome... thanks again...

Wait, wait, did you say wizards? They have a separate quests for Dark promotion, given by a person in the Pit. It involves stealing some soul jars from Celeste. No wonder they didn't get promoted from the Priest of Dark quest.

I'll give that a try... I've played this many times, but never mixing a Cleric and Wizard... everything I found to read, indicated the whole party would get promoted....regardless of what class they were.... but your suggestion makes sense...

I'll keep your suggestion in mind should this happen with any other quests...with different requirements for a Cleric or Wizard....

Will let you know if the Celeste quest does it....

Thanks a bunch...the thought of Enofol Tunnel...without some heavy hitters...or Dragon Breath..

Yep, see this page for reference on individual character classes:

http://users.telenet.be/luc.vandevoorde.1./loc/MM7/Promotion_Quests.htm

Each class has a separate first promotion quest, and then another quest, depending on the light or dark choice in the game. You can't promote wizards with a cleric's quest and vice versa. So everything is alright with your game. :) If you can complete the wizard's promotion quest, you're ready for Eofol. Or you can do it the cheesy way and use Invisibility all the way through.
Your wizards will be able to learn Dark Magic as soon as they are promoted to Lich :)

I use the invisibility spell to ambush... It's too much fun taking down the big behemoths....not to mention the experience....and goodies.

When I returned to Falk for the Priest of Dark promotion... he stated that my Cleric is promoted to PoD and all others would be promoted to Honorary Priests of Dark.... and the little "sparkles" washed over all 4 characters.... I knew about the Jars, but Falks' comment about making others Honorary PoD sent my thinking in the wrong direction.

I'm off to Celeste....I prefer Eofol ... the Soul Jars are a pain....

Thanks again to all for the patience and help.....

The "honorary" titles just mean experience for other party members, sort of a consolation prize so that they don't get envious of your cleric. ;) Remember, the fairly simple gameplay mechanic ensures that M&M remains pure, unadulterated fun. So have fun with it and explore differen areas. If something is too hard, you can always return later once you train up.
