I've played MM6 & 7 too many times to count, but in 7 I always end with more or less the same party, due to the skill restrictions (as in, sorcerer can't learn Expert bow). Is there some way to go around that? I'd like to play it like MM6, where there's much more freedom.

I don't have a link, but I believe the file you want is called mm7che.exe. And IIRC, yes, you can bypass most class restrictions on skills.
That's what I like much in MM7: the classes mean something, you don't end with uber specialists in all things.

You can play an Archer instead of Sorcerer: the archer can learn many spells.

Yeah, that's true, and I don't dislike it per se, I just want to try something else.
