I kept putting this off "till I become more powerful", without realizing that enemy strength increases too with your level.

Now I face some 20 Gold dragons, and I have no way of beating them. I'm level 110, and I still have trouble even beating the first few. Even after buffing up with the 3 "day" spells.

Any advice on what I could do? I know it's not necessary to do it, but it's the only thing left in the game (that and visiting the final dungeon).

Will being more powerful (how more powerful?) help? I had no trouble in dragonsand, but there I could lure few at a time an retreat. Plus I could use those 2 outdoor spells (meteor shower and star thingy...)

To my chagrin, I realized that if you go there at level 1, you face peasants attacking you with rolling pins. Easy victory. I really wish I did that earlier.
Master blaster :)

WTF: Master blaster :)
How?

I got 8-12 ranks in blaster, but even when I use the large gun, it still does less damage than ordinary weapons (around half the damage), albeit being faster.

I know you can have a constant stream of fire in real time mode (I'm assuming this is a feature and not a bug). But if I don't go turn based I get wiped out pretty quickly too.
Real time is the key. Cast haste, strafe a lot and blast everything. Nothing survives 4 hasted blaster rifles for long.
And yeah, that's cheapest tactics in this game that can be, but it will work :P

Tried strafing (it's slower than running), but still no luck. Problem is you're surrounded by dragons so no matter where you run or strafe you get hit pretty quickly. The blasters take out 2 or 3 very quickly but I get hit real fast as well.

Running to a corner or wall so I'm not surrounded doesn't help much either.
Have you tried to use your Elementals to draw fire (Summoned before entering the arena)?
Cast Invisibility (before entering the arena) and try to get to a safer place
Paralyze to get some dragons off you back.

When I played the first time around I think I won once at the highest level but that was a long time ago and my memory may just be being kind. When I got the game from GOG for a replay, after the needed five wins, I completely forgot the Arena. But I was trying to remember how I did it when I played the first time, though I don't remember facing that many dragons. Without flight for the "Z" effect (little Star Trek reference there), that would be tough.
That's MM6 dude, there are no elementals, invisibility, paralyze etc.

There's another cheap trick you can try. If you enter turn based mode the dragons should come a little closer to you each time, maybe even without hitting you. Then leave and enter again. Do this until they are all mashed up together (and heal all the time since you will get hit). Then try blaster strafe until they move away from each other since they will try to circle you. Repeat.
Sorry and I stand corrected-- except paralyze for which there are wands.
Thanks for all the help WTF, but it looks like this is one achievement I'll have to skip. Will get it next time I play the game.
Spoke too soon... I found a way! 3 spells did the trick.

1. In order to avoid the dragons ganging up on you, use JUMP to go up the "seats". They are nicely shielded and you can take the dragons few at a time.
2. SHRAPMETAL for some heavy damage. For only 60 SP you can cut a gold dragon in half. You have to be close so that all pieces hit.
3. DIVINE INTERVENTION not only heals you up but also restores SP, so you can cast more of shrapmetal. Only dawn and dusk though, so some timing is required.

Druid heals, Cleric shrapmetals or heals, Mage shrapmetals. Fighter does the little damage that he can, though he also dontaes HPs through Shared Life...
