Oh noes.
I just installed this new version. When I attempted to load my saved World of Xeen game I got "No Saved Games found" in both voice and non-voice versions....
Did I just screw up big time?
*Edit - I located my old .sav files but the new version uses .wox.
There is another thread regarding this. A poster in several threads is offering a program for converting these files, but I'm hoping for another solution.
Has anyone used the "converter" and can confirm that it works and/or offer another solution?

I was able to get this to work, using ONLY what came with the GOG download. Here are first-order details in the last post: I just installed this new version. When I attempted to load my saved World of Xeen game I got "No Saved Games found" in both voice and non-voice versions....

I don't think that version contains CD Audio music for many reason. The speech is on CD tracks and having CD Audio music would've meant that the game is reading two CD tracks at the same time which is impossible.

Would be possible if the game just "muted" the music while someone is talking. At least with building cut scenes the game does this anyway. I thought there was CDA because I found a intro version on YouTube that claimed it had CD audio.

POLE7645: The Intro probably does (it was common at the time on CD games to have the entire audio for cutscenes as a CD track), but the gameplay definitely doesn't. The same MIDI music continues in the background while you speak to a character. Post edited December 30, 2012 by Darkcloud

gammaleak: Objectively, you may be right. But I grew up with that version. The cheesy voice-acting is a big part of the nostalgia.
JudasIscariot: Hey there! GOG Santa came around and left an early Christmas present for you and everyone else :D
Check out our brand spankin' new installer. You'll notice something new once you install it :D
(hint: there's speech involved now :D)
Edit: Never mind. Sorry I did not notice the separate shortcut for the full speech version since I just clicked the load option at the end of the installer, which defaults to the non speech version.

MAC USERS!
How to run WORLD OF XEEN on MacOS High Sierra using BOXER:
I have the original World of Xeen on MS-DOS CD-ROM, so I can confirm that GOG indeed does provide you with the CD Version. The CD Version added speech for all dialogue in the game. However the original CD-ROM never actually had CD-AUDIO music, so all the music will run off the sound card. Roland-MT-32 is an option and sounds very pleasant. Note that “c:\xeen.exe" is the NON-CD version, whereas the CD version is located in “c:\world\xeen.exe". So you need to be sure to start the program from the “c:\world” directory.
I'm on MacOS High Sierra, running BOXER version 1.4.0.
I run the game through the BOXER app.
To get the game running on a Mac in BOXER, do the following:
1 - install the boxer app. Google it.
2 - download the game file for Xeen4+5,
3 - start the boxer app, and choose "Import a game"
4 - drag the GOG Xeen4+5 downloaded file to the "Drop your game here" screen.
5 - Go through the installation screen, I think it has you setup the sound settings. (Roland MT-32 works for this game and is quite nice. Less Wonky than the Soundblaster version).
6 - In BOXER, "Browse your games" and find "World of Xeen.boxer". Right-click on it and choose "Show Package Contents". Notice the two folders here titled "GAME1.cdmedia" and "GAME2.cdmedia". These each contain about 100MB of .ogg speech. Which is very impressive b/c when the original CUE/BIN audio files are installed from my original 2-disk CD-ROM, the size was 1.46GB Uncompressed!
7 - Open the file "DOSBox Preferences.conf". At the bottom you should see "[autoexec]" along with a comment saying "This configuration file was created by Boxer. etc etc." Go below the comment and paste the following:
c:
cd \world
This will make sure that you're in the \world directory (which is the CD-ROM version)
8 - Go back to BOXER "Browse Games", and start the game by double-clicking "World of Xeen".
Either the game will launch, or you’ll get a dos prompt. It doesn’t matter what happens.
NOTE! - DO NOT "Click a program to launch". These are the NON-CD versions.
9 - Open the “BOXER GameBox Inspector” for this boxer game by clicking the little magnifying glass in the BOTTOM LEFT of the game window. The gamebox inspector window now shows. Select the GAME tab at top. Down below, hit the drop-down for “When starting up, launch” and change it to “Nothing, show a dos prompt”. Close the Boxer game window for World of Xeen. Go back to Browse Games, then double-click “World of Xeen”. You will get a black screen with a DOS prompt at “c:\world”. Type “install” and press enter. This will launch the setup for the SOUND and SPEECH.
**Consider changing the sound-card for "Music" to ROLAND MT-32, but leave the "Speech" set to SoundBlaster Pro and use the recommended port/IRQ etc settings. Also, I recommend saying YES to the option to allow the game to adjust the volume levels.
Finally you will come to a screen asking if you want to install “1) Intro, 2) Clouds of Xeen, 3) Darkside of Xeen.” DON’T INSTALL ANY OF THEM. Just Press Enter TWICE to quit back to the DOS prompt.
10 - Go back to BOXER "Browse Games", and start the game by double-clicking "World of Xeen".
11 - Open the “BOXER GameBox Inspector” again by clicking the little magnifying glass in the BOTTOM LEFT of the game window. The gamebox inspector window now shows. Select the GAME tab at top. Down below, hit the drop-down for “When starting up, launch” and change it to C:\WORLD\XEEN.EXE”.
12 - Still in the GameBox Inspector, Click on the DRIVES tab. Here you will see the GAME CD’s containing the speech dialogue. GAME1.cdmedia, and GAME2.cdmedia. NOTICE that GAME2.cdmedia is selected.
**GAME2.cdmedia contains all of the audio content for DARKSIDE of Xeen, and for whatever reason on my computer, Boxer always chooses the GAME2.cdmedia folder as the default everytime the game starts. I fixed this by renaming the folders so that the CLOUDS OF XEEN audio cd is the default one to load.
13 - Right-click on GAME1.cdmedia and choose “show in finder”. Rename “GAME1.cdmedia” to “XEEN_CD1.cdmedia”. Rename “GAME2.cdmedia” to “XEEN_CD2.cdmedia”.
Now when Xeen launches, it “should” default to GAME1.cdmedia. Since only one CD can be active, if you happen to have the wrong CD active, press CMD-SHIFT-LEFT or CMD-SHIFT-RIGHT to toggle between CD1 and CD2.
14 - Close out of the Boxer game window for World of Xeen.
15 - Go back to BOXER "Browse Games", and start the game by double-clicking "World of Xeen".
The game should launch properly now, with CD1 loaded.
Again, press CMD-SHIFT-LEFT/RIGHT to toggle Game CD’s. If you travel back and forth between Clouds/Darkside of Xeen, you will be prompted to press CTRL-F4 and press enter. But this is NOT correct. You need to press CMD-SHIFT-LEFT/RIGHT to swap between CD1/CD2, then press ENTER. It will take about 2 seconds, and then the game will continue in the other land with full audio/dialogue for that land.
A few final notes:
To bypass the intro screen, press the ESCAPE key.
To view the intro to CLOUDS OF XEEN, you need to set the Gamebox Inspector to set the game to launch from C:\xeen.exe and restart the game through boxer. Then on the title screen, click "More Options" and you'll see the Clouds of Xeen Intro. Change the GameInspector back to c:\world\xeen.exe and restart the game through boxer.
When in the game, click the purple jewel in the center of the screen to access the sound options. I recommend turning TEXT so that you can read what is being spoken. Some of the spoken audio is not clear/loud enough, the text won't be obstructing anything important anyways.
That's it. Many thanks to GOG for offering the CD version of this game! Hope you enjoy and good luck adventuring.
