When ever I get around to playing MM2 I don't know how I am going to keep my sanity with the way the engine renders walls. They are invisible 2 spaces away on the edge of your vision! I included a picture that explains this. It makes me feel as if I am outside when I'm in the walled city or even in a small enclosed room! The crazy thing is that this isn't the case with MM1.

Say that I'm heading down a path. I can see what is directly ahead but not what is on either side of me. I could miss a path the leads left without even knowing its existence. If I turn left right next to it then the path shows up, but facing left just one step back just shows empty space where the path (or a wall) should be. Its annoying and I might get used to it.

I can't even wrap my head around why MM1 is different. The turning and heading through doors being immediate can be jarring and can sometimes turn you around but I swear there aren't any disappearing walls! Is this because paths and rooms are larger than in MM1 (with MM1 mostly being 2x2 rooms and 1 tile wide corridors?

You will get used to it and even memorize a lot of it. I started on MM1 but for some reason when went back to it I could not get my party to come up again. So I went to MM2. Do you have someone trained in cartography yet? That helps. But if you just mean the techs for it I don't know. :)

How do I see skills? I checked the quick reference page and all I saw was Thievery 0%. With cartography on is there a way for it to be on all the time... like where the controls and protection page is?

I keep thinking of just trying MM1 on the mac version because of the ease of reading your party's stats. The black and white graphics actually look kinda nice, too.

You can buy skills at certain shops in the towns. They will show up under the thievery skill. Each party member can have two skills. If you have cartography skill on someone you can hit M key and you will see where you are in the immediate area. If you get the spell Wizard Eye you will see where you are and watch the parties movement.
My MM1 messed up on me so I went ahead to 2. I will try to fix one someday.
