Aricene: You can press CTRL-F11 a few times to lower the CPU cycles DOSbox simulates. For M&M1, I lower it to around 300 cycles or so.

CTRL-F12 speeds it back up if you lower it too far.

Waltorious: This is true but I'd recommend the fan patch instead... lowering cycles will cause the entire game to slow down, whereas the fan patch only slows down the text.

Adjusting cycles is easy to do though so it's worth a try to see if you like it.

Also the exact cycles setting will vary from user to user because it depends on your CPU.
as far as i've learned within the past couple of days, I can only find the delay in combat. and where can I find the patch? that would be awesome, because even at 300 cycles, and the delay set on 9, I only get about half of a second to read the text.

Just copy it into the same directory as MM.EXE and execute it from Windows not DOSBox.

Copied from earlier in this very thread.

You might try running the patch as administrator. Right-click it and look for a "run as administrator" option in the menu, should be near the top.

(I have assumed you are using Windows 7 or Vista)

The link to the patch is dead! I really need it. Somebody? GOG should have somewhere on its website so we can enjoy the game.

Here it is. Change the extension from JPG to EXE and it should work.
Original filename: MM_I_text_speed_patch.exe

You're welcome, though I think it'll take more than a weekend. :D I'm still in the process of playing MM1, though sadly, I haven't had a lot of time to play it lately.
The file I get is a long name full of numbers and letters. It does not work for me. Anyone have a working link?

You need to rename the file to "MM_I_text_speed_patch.exe".
GOG only allows JPG attachments, so I had to change the file extension to JPG to post it.

I did that and it's still a JPG file.

Then you have to remove the JPG extension and make sure it's an EXE.

EDIT: Do you have extensions hidden in Windows? That might be what's causing your problems.

Hidden extensions was the problem. The patch works great. Thanks!
