Pretty much what it says. I'm using the GrayFace patch and everything else seems to work fine, but videos just don't play. Anyone else experiencing this?

And I searched for the problem before posting this, but if I missed something and it's already been discussed then I apologize in advance.

Same here. The intro movie plays fine in software mode, but not when hardware accelerated is selected.
Some morte detailed information:
* during gameplay : exploring maps, entering dungeons or shops, fighting in TBM hardware acellerated works fine.
* the problem does not only affect the movies, but also some intro scenes like the 3do globe or the Jonh Van Caeneghem mountains and rainbow view
* the movies do play in a way because I can hear the audio, both music and narrator, but the visuals don't show.
I already tried severeal compatibility modes, inserting the game cd and tinkering with grayface's options but haven't found a solution yet.
Hm... if i remember correctly from my own research this seems to be a directX 7 issue. No idea how to actually fix it though. (I installed the unofficial patch and that seems to have fixed it, so hum. I got nuthin')
Same problem. And I'm far into the game, and I'd like to be able to see some of the cutscenes coming up.
Got a fix! Thanks to the impeccable DOSFreak for this:

Regedit:
HKLM/Wow6432Node/New World Computing/Might and Magic VII/1.0
Set 2dAcceloff to 1

The videos will now play properly. Also works with GrayFace's patch.

(on 32bit, the path is the same, but lacks Wow6432Node)

Nice that you found a fix, but I'm afraid your explanation is a bit too short for me.
What do I have to do exactly to apply this?

Open Regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/New World Computing/Might and Magic VII/1.0
Double click '2dacceloff', change the value to 1

If you've got 64bit Windows, the key will be in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Wow6432node/Software/....
Just wanted to confirm that solved it. Thanks a lot!
We have a winner!
It worked for me too.
Thank you for the clarification of your efficient solution,TheJoe!
I had the same problem and this worked perfectly! Thanks!

Hi, i have the same problem too, videos not playing at all, even the introduction video at the start. I understand that the solution have been given and works perfectly for most people.

But my problem now is, I DONT UNDERSTAND THE SOLUTION! Can somebody help me please? I'm an idiot with computers and have no idea at all what is written as 'the solution'. All i want to do is play MM7 T.T

- press WinKey + R to open 'Run' window
- type regedit to open Registry Editor
- using left panel, navigate to the key posted by TheJoe
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/New World Computing/Might and Magic VII/1.0]

- after you highlight 1.0, different lines will appear in right panel; find '2dacceloff' and double-click it to change value to 1
- close Registry Editor
ahahaha problem solved! thank you for such a detailed solution!
Having the same issue as described above. Some further oddities with mine, for instance, when I start the game, after the party creation, it sort of plays the movie with the missing contestants, but it doesn't fully remove the party creation screen. Checked this solution, found my value was already set to 1. Any other help?

I've got the exact same problem as described by Star_Sage in win XP running on Parallels Desktop.

edit: just fixed it - go to the install folder, run "MM7Setup" and choose "Software 3D" instead of "Hardware Accelerated 3D". Disabling hardware acceleration was mentioned in a few other posts, but i didn't understand that it should be done in the config utility. Hope this helps!
