I just started Might and magic 3 since I own all the games and really want to finish them but still thinking of playing 1 and 2 since those were very hard to get around with, exploring. Is it worth to get trough those 2? And if yes any advice? I had a bit higer lvl party but i ended in another town and couldnt get back.

Honestly, I got bored fast with MM1. But many people like it.

MM2 is my favorite of all MM games, but it's definitely a very personal love. But I've heard the same sentiment from many others. I definitely liked it more than 3-5, but 6 and 8 were also quite good (I never got around to 7 -- maybe one day).
You don't need to play the first two to understand the storyline of the later games, but there are some loose connections between the first five games so you'll have a better appreciation for the series if you play through all the games.

I was pleasantly surprised by the first two games. I found them quite impressive for how old they are. They definitely play differently though and there are certain frustrating aspects (limited ability to save the game, having to look up spell numbers in the manual, having to make your own maps in MM1, identifying items is annoying unless you look them up in the cluebook). For some, these annoyances spoil the fun of the early games. So don't force yourself to play them.

Having said that, I think they can be very enjoyable once one gets into them so I'd suggest giving them another shot. If MM1 is bothering you too much you can skip to MM2 which is improved in many ways while still playing in a similar manner.

What town did you get stuck in? Was it in MM1? My guess is you got stuck in Dusk? You can technically get out, but you will have to grind for levels until your sorcerer learns the "fly" spell, then you can go outside and cast fly to travel instantly to any outdoor region. This can get you back to Sorpigal. Alternatively, find an item that can cast Fly, like a Magic Carpet (again by grinding on enemies). There also might be a secret way out by searching the dungeon underneath the town and looking for a portal, which will warp you to a different dungeon, from which you can escape. There might be tough enemies down there though.

Thanks for the quick reply, I always grinded my lvls at the start but i accidantly went in a portal that took me in another town, dont know the name but it was the one with those rooms with those guards and those treasure chests. Since I got there teleported I dont know how I travel there on foot, I end up getting slaughtered while going outside the town.

That's Erliquin, town number 5. Despite being number 5, it's actually not that far from Sorpigal... if you check the map that came with the game (it's on the extras menu for the MM pack on your GOG account page) you can see that it's to the northwest of Sorpigal. It's actually pretty easy to walk back to Sorpigal, as long as you stick to the roads. When you leave Erliquin, you'll be facing west. Head that way and then turn north. Then, turn east. Follow that road into the forest. It will eventually turn South. Keep going down that way and you'll be back in Sorpigal in no time. Remember to use your Sorcerer's Location spell to see where you are, which will help you figure out which segment of the world map you're in (it's divided into sections, like C2, each of which is a 16x16 grid).

Getting stuck in Erliquin isn't nearly as bad as getting stuck in Dusk. If you teleport to Dusk, you won't be able to cross the desert which means you'll REALLY be stuck. At least until you can either cast the Fly spell or find another portal.

Oh well I started over since i lost my save file back to lvl 1 I notice that a paladin is hard to start with. The most useful characters are my sorcerer and cleric since they can boost and heal and the sorcerer hits more often with his spells then the melee characters.
My paladin needs a lot of xp to lvl up so hes really weak at the start. And i noticed that speed is very important stat because it boost your ac a lot. My cleric has better ac then my front fighters.
Yes, IMHO, for M&M2. That is my reason for picking up the series, although it is also the only one I had as a child so that may be part of it.

M&M2 has some interesting class-specific quests. Also, be sure to include 1 Robber in your starting party (for reasons I will keep anonymous).

M&M2 has surprising depth and complexity considering when it was created. There is someone who will teach you Cartography in the first town (Middlegate), which is quite useful. The colors are better than M&M1 (although still EGA...16 colors).

I still have had a hard time getting into M&M1, but will try it again eventually. For now, I'm trying to learn M&M3+...since I grew up on M&M2. I'm starting with M&M4-5, since the concept of a few major quests at once appeals to me. :)

Yeah getting decent speed for everyone is useful... if you are still right at the beginning you could consider re-rolling for better starting stats. But there will be ways to increase your stats later so it's not critical.

My Paladin wasn't too bad once she got decent equipment... she could hit nearly as hard as my knight, and later on could provide some emergency healing and protection spells.

When you first start out after making your own characters, you hardly have any equipment. But, you can take equipment off of the pre-made characters. Start a game with half your characters and half pre-made characters, transfer all their stuff to your guys, then repeat with the other pre-made characters. That can give a nice edge in the early game. And make sure you equip everything!

Thanks i did that, wel its too bad you cant change your start and what you roll is what you get. Yeah thats why I had chosen the paladin as a back up healer and casting light when in dark area's. Im grinding gold a bit and getting better gear, all the party but the paladin are lvl 2, wich is nice since they have more health. Im trying to get the fron liners a scale mail wich gonne take a while, my paladin is best armoured atm scale mail shield and a short sword. But i noticed that my knight does great damage as well with his hand axe. Oh yeah I got a robber and an archer as well and gave them a missle weapon. So they do damage as well. I noticed that my robber always goes down first, he lvls quickly tough.

Robbers are fairly useless in combat but they are essential for opening doors and treasure chests without triggering traps.

By the way, I assume you know to search after every fight? You can rest first if necessary but don't move or you'll give up the treasure.
My Wizard in MM2 is missing! Merlin just disappeared without a trace! He was up to a level 13 already. I am thinking of moving on to MM3. I have not really enjoyed MM2 like I used to with the Bards Tale. I may come back to it later, knowing I will have to build up a wizard from scratch again.

That is really odd. He's not showing up on the roster anymore?

Yep. I wonder if I did something to accidentally delete him. I am old you know, lol.

It happens too the best of all, but again you played bards tale so you must be old ;)
Btw how was that serie, was it better or harder then might and magic?

Maybe a tad easier. Using the magic was easier for me to remember. I don't know, it just seemed more fun to me than MM2. Or maybe I had more patience then. Now MM6 I loved! I was 3/4 of the way through when I had to upgrade. If GOG got the Bard's tale series I would buy them.
