Hi,

I've just started playing World of Xeen and I'v noticed music skipping.
There's also sound skipping in the intro. It's pretty annoying to be honest.

Is there any way to deal with this? I've tried bringing down CPU Cycles but even though the game takes longer to load stuff, the skipping is still there.
You should look into the sound settings in both the DOSBox .conf file and the "install" program that comes with the game. Go to your install directory and look for a file with the .conf extension; it's probably called something like "dosboxmm4-5.conf". Open it in a text editor and look for sound settings in there. You can change things around by trying different sound card settings. There's a lot of info about these settings in the DOSBox wiki. Check sections 2.6 and 2.7 about MIDI and soundblaster settings:

http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Dosbox.conf

My suggestion would be to try different versions of soundblaster, like standard soundblaster, soundblaster pro and soundblaster 16. You can also try changing the Port, IRQ and DMA settings. Port is almost always set to 220 but you can try IRQ of 5 or 7, and DMA of 1 or 3.

You may also need to change the game's sound settings using the "install" program that comes with the game so that they match the choices you made in the .conf file. Unfortunately, you probably need to run the install program through DOSBox which can be tricky to do with the default installation settings. I gave some instructions for how to do this in another thread... read this post and my follow-up post for the full instructions:

Thanks for the input, although I haven't managed to get rid of the stuttering.

The only way to stop it is by switching over to roland emulation.

I don't have any experience with Roland emulation... how did you do it? Also, you can't solve the problem also by just choosing a device other than the Roland for music? DOSBox does not have good Roland support yet but you could run the music through SoundBlaster or Adlib and it might not skip (but would probably sound worse).
