Hello,

I have been replaying MM6-8 over years and years and am still loving this great game series - they are probably my favorites of all time (6-8).

One of the main things that I enjoy about the MM games is the music, and I want it to loop continuously. The vanilla Gog.com versions are now doing that. Yay, Gog.com!

The Grayface patch for the games is *supposed* to do that by setting "Music loops=0" in the .ini file. However, on many operating systems, including any of mine on which I've ever tried to use the Grayface patch, this feature does not work. In fact, it cuts off the music altogether by default, until one creates a new folder in the game folder called "music" and does some mp3 conversion, copying, and pasting into the newly created "music" folder - luckily, the Gog.com vanilla versions give you the mp3 files ready made. Again, yay Gog.com!

I brought this issue up at the Celestial Heavens forum years ago. The famous Emerald Knight replied and told me that it was a known issue, and that it was unlikely to ever be resolved, since "Grayface" had long ago moved on and never looked back.

So, my question in this topic would be, has anyone, or Gog.com, found a way to install the Grayface patch over the Gog.com version of the game, without turning off the infinite music looping?

This is a total deal breaker for me vis a vis Grayface. I would *love* to be able to play MM6 and MM7 with the Grayface patch, but if I can't infinitely loop the beatific music by Paul Romero, then I'll just have to do without and play the vanilla Gog.com versions.

And one more time, YAY Gog.com for looping that music in the default downloads!

At least what you can do, if you want to hear again the music, is to fast save then fast load:
loading starts the music again.
Make infinite loadings lol

After installing the patch over MM6 I didn't have any music at all (even after changing the ini settings) until I copied the mp3s from the Music folder to Sounds folder (or the other way around, I don't remember :D). Then it worked. For MM6. So far, I haven't managed to get infinitely looping music in MM7.

Update - just got to MM8 and the looping music works simply by changing the setting in ini. Nothing else required.

Greyface patch works great with the Gog versions of M&M. Music loops perfectly--I actually get tired of it, though, because the volume controls aren't so hot and it's too loud, often, and after I've heard the same song 15 times it becomes very tedious...;) I have now set it to play once in each location--and I've found I much prefer that. If you don't get the Gog version your only other choice is to do the MP3 folder for the regular game. If you can't handle doing the conversions yourself I'm positive that if you run the appropriately worded Bing/Google search for them you can find the mp3's already converted and just waiting on you to download them...
I have replaced the original tracks with the tracks that I extended myself using Audacity (it is a free software for editing audio). There are videos on youtube on how to do it. It is simple. Now I have 20-30 minutes of each track and don't have to quickload/ quicksave the game every 2-3 minutes.
I don't remember, but did the original games have looping music? I feel like on modern systems without the patch (or when using original CDs) the music doesn't go on for as long as it used to in towns, so it probably did loop back in 98 and earlier, right?

Music didn't loop in original versions. It played once only, which was quite upsetting. It also played from CD, so it always kept disc busy in CD drive.
Ah, that would explain why playing the game with the patch but not the looping set on with my CDs doesn't make the music loop. And here I was just wondering if it was because of the newer system or me misremembering. Thanks!
