I know that the patches were altering the game mechanics in some ways and some of the previous ones seemed much more "vanilla" to me. I know I downloaded the latest version sometime before 2011 I think, when the latest addition to MM7 was that you could loop the music or something.
If I ever play the game with my original discs, I'd love to be able to use one of the older patches and not the latest one, however it looks like Sergei doesn't keep them on his website, and I can't seem to find a place that'd have an archive.
