_-Sorcerian-_: Oh everything is okay now that i installed the .sdb, thanks a lot for uploading it :D I've seen .sdb files before, but i don't know how to create them.

Btw, a last question. Does the game ask you for the CD? I mean, i know that you can get over that plugging an USB, but it's a bit annoying n___n''

Manu270891: Did you apply the crack and then used upx.bat?
The Widescreen fix's ddraw.dll and the INI are the only things needed. The crack you mention isn't needed. Place the DLL, change the ini settings to the resolution you want; delete the files mgsvideo.cfg & mgsvideo1.cfg; right-click the mgsi.exe and change the compatibility settings (I chose Windows XP SP2); and check "Run as Administrator." For good measure, I also checked "Disable fullscreen optimizations". GOG's EXE works just fine. I also use Borderless Gaming to make it a borderless window at 4k.

True! I don't know what happened the first time that it didn't work for me.
Actually, yeah. Using the widescreen fix without the crack made it work and now it doesn't ask for CD! Thanks to both of you, CJDJ and Manu270891 ¡Gracias! :D

Have you ever try the mehode in the first post? Without downloading a cracked .exe from a obscure web-site?

Manu270891: I managed to make MGS 1 work with the Widescreen patch by nemesis2000:

1- Download the nemesis2000 widescreen patch from http://ps2wide.net/pc.html#mgs and extract all files from "mgs.7z" (the password is "mgs") except "upx.bat" and "upx.exe" to the installation directory, overwriting "ddraw.dll". GOG's release "ddraw.dll" is actually a dgVoodoo wrapper, but it must be replaced so the widescreen patch works. This makes the "dxcfg.exe" setup tool useless.

2- Edit "mgs1w.ini" to select the resolution. The letterboxing from the cutscenes can be removed too.

3- If the selected resolution's width/height is bigger than 2048 pixels, LegacyD3DResolutionHack must be used. Download it from https://github.com/UCyborg/LegacyD3DResolutionHack/releases and extract both .dll files to the installation folder.

4- Detele the existing "mgsvideo.cfg" and "mgsvideo1.cfg" files in the installation's folder.

5- Finally, I created a .sdb file with Compatibility Administrator to include the following fixes for "mgsi.exe" and "mgsvr.exe": "ForceSimpleWindow", "HighDpiAware", and "RunAsAdmin", which makes the game run in fullscreen with the widescreen patch. You can download it here: https://mega.nz/file/UogW1BDT#HvSERgbKp0Q4F2GkkAqY-_TiwYFElB4vCN0Dbw7tQn4. To install it, open CMD (Admin) where the .sdb file is located and type "sdbinst "GOG MGS Compatibility Fixes.sdb"". To uninstall it, type " sdbinst -u "GOG MGS Compatibility Fixes.sdb"".

6- This fix has a little problem, the main menu lags a lot on high resolutions (at least in 4K), but gameplay runs at a solid 30 fps, just like the original game did.

I also noticed that the "demo\s0503a1.dmo" file is not the same as the retail version. If anybody knows what they changed, it would be great to know.

Here are two 4K screenshots from the first section of the game:

I tried the above, and it works with one exception: Don't download the cracks, you don't need them. In fact, it doesn't work with the cracks. I can play the main game fine, but the VR missions won't launch.

I just updated the instructions. The slowdowns are fixed now, check it out! Don't forget to uninstall the .sdb file, it is not needed anymore!

You are amazing, and I now love you, platonically, of course. Thank you so much. You singlehandedly fixed the game, like wow. Don't forget to update PCGW.
I have got the widescreen fix on but is there any way to properly run 1080p? im noticing when running the game and my geforce experience pops up that its all blurry meaning the game is running lower than my resolution.

Did you download dgVoodoo and follow Manu's steps through that?

it worked then I closed the game and it went back to the low resolution with the black bar at the bottom.
Can't even do the dgvoodoo part, Google blocks the download and i even went over to Firefox that blocks the site

nevermind i worked it out so Firefox doesn't block the zip file.

Remove the "mgsvideo.cfg" and "mgsvideo1.cfg" files, then launch the game again. Don't forget to force the resolution through dgVoodoo.

You are doing something wrong. Try reinstalling the game and following the instructions. Did you uninstall the .sdb file that I posted in the old instructions? Maybe your antivirus is deleting some files.
