Something that confused me about the store page is that all of the screenshots are in 1920x1080p widescreen. The video is 1.60:1 (and a blue poster mentioned 640x400 and 1024x600 support in windowed), though, so is the game perhaps scaled from 230x200? It appears to use the same assets as the Mega Drive version, so it would actually make sense to not need DOSBox-style aspect ratio correction, although the loss of 24 rows of pixels would be unfortunate.

On a related note, how is the game output (exclusive fullscreen native, borderless fullscreen windowed upscaled, regular window, etc.)? Is it nearest or integer scaled, as the screenshots imply, or does it actually output at native resolution and be blurry as a result? If it is indeed 320x200, can it be output at native res in windowed mode/output at the correct aspect ratio in fullscreen mode?

The bold questions are the most important factors to my purchase decisions.

I'm asking the same thing
Although I can't say what the correct aspect ratio should be, the Screen menu has 640x400 and 1024x600 as resolutions.

There are two output methods:
- In a window that can be freely resized. It does NOT correct aspect ratio or add any black bars so you can get really stretched images when resizing the window. The options in the menu resize the window to the resolution given.

- In full screen it will you fill the entire desktop resolution, without any aspect ratio correction or pillarboxing so on a widescreen resolution it will be wide stretched. Full screen is implemented as a borderless fullscreen window using the current desktop resolution as is. A quirk with it is that it doesn't show up when ALT-TABbing when running in full screen and will always be on top.

To fix the aspect ratio on fullscreen, set the desktop resolution as desired before starting the game.

The game output is nearest neighbor scaled as far as I can see. The scaling per pixel is not equally. So pixels are doubled while others not.

Simply said, it will scale the image to fill the complete given space in any size without any correction with a simple nearest neighbor algorithm.

In fullscreen, the ratio can be fixed as long as the desired resolution can be displayed in Windows and the scaling can be done by the monitor.

If the game is running choppy (frame drops) then set the refresh rate of the monitor to 60Hz before running. On my computer when running 75Hz it dropped many frames. Setting it to 60Hz made it all smooth.

Screenshot included is how it is rendered in a window.

A little hint, F5 can be used to switch between windowed and fullscreen. The manual is incorrect on that detail.

What I think is that it should be displayed in a 4:3 resolution seeing the year it is made.

RanSebastian: I'm asking the same thing
How do you change the refresh rate of a modern computer monitor under Windows 10? I know how to change the resolution and scailing, but not the refresh rate.

You can change the refresh rate from Display settings (right mouse click on desktop) > Advanced Display Settings > Display adapter properies for Display > Monitor.

I see, thanks.
For the record, yes, the resolution is 320x200 as assumed by the OP.

I have this problem (I think?) where the game appears to skip a few frames every second or so, unless that's normal. Reason why I believe so is if I run from side to side or jump up and down I can see the backdrops scroll smoothly for the most part yet they do a little skip ahead every few moments. Setting my monitor to 60Hz or 59Hz doesn't help, unfortunately.

I now also have the same problem, even on 60Hz. Between my previous post and now I have upgraded Windows 10 to Windows 11 and updated the drives of my Radeon graphics card. Most likely those changes made this game not run as smooth anymore.

Huh, this was a while ago.

In the meantime, I got a Steam Deck and played it there, unfortunately this produces the same issue. It's Valve's SteamOS 3 (which is derived from Arch Linux) so I have doubts about it being OS-specific, but I have no clue what it could be
