1oom is a clone in the most literal sense: it's an exact replica of the original, but playable on any platform! If you wanna go back to that old-skool vanilla experience without the need for DOSBox, this is it. Of course it requires the original MOO1 files. :)

The project is still young but fully playable. To try it out just extract the ZIP and copy the MOO1 files to the same directory as the executables (or extract the executables directly into your MOO1 directory, whichever you prefer). 1oom_classic and 1oom_cmdline are the game executables, the rest are various utilities.

They're looking for testers, so try it out and report any bugs you see to their GitLab with a savefile. And spread the word, I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more traction, it could have great potential for the MOO1 purists among us.

Edit: Project moved to GitLab

Once finished and polished, not too far, I presume, the same philosophy for MOO2 would be amazing.

The original author has disappeared and is done with the remake. New development and bugfixes seem to be happening here https://gitlab.com/Tapani_/1oom.

sry for the noob question, but am I right to assume that the binaries (.exe) from the original project work with this version? You just have to copy/paste the new material, right?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. You'd need to recompile the source files.

Terribly sorry if this seems lazy, but I did try to recompile the files myself, but to no avail. Is there any way hopeless Luddites like me can get the compiled latest build?

I had some difficulty with it too I remember, make sure you are using the right compiler x64 if you have a 64bit OS and so forth. If all else fails and you download things from strangers on the internet I can maybe find a way to share my executable with you.
You really want to get Remnants of the Precusors, which is a superior remake of MOO.

1) Is not open source.
2) Appears to be a beat for beat retake of MOO.
3) Hasn't released yet, so cannot say provability.
1. It *is* open source.
2. It's an improved remake. Better UI, better AI, fixed design issues etc.
3. It's basically already released. They're adding a few extra (beautiful) images and ironing out any remaining bugs, but the game is fully functional.
