It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

MechMorphix: Hello, thanks for posting these solutions, but I'm a little bit confused now about what is the right file to download (for the GOG version).
- The file from google drive in the starting post?
- Or the Mega file from page 2 posted by "mwnn"?
You're probably best grabbing the original DTA files from page 2 taken straight off my retail CD's.

This will be identical to the retail version then - with no changes or alterations to the music or sound fx.

When we first uploaded the fixed ripped music none of us noticed that GOG had changed some extra files that weren't in the MUSIC folder.

The widescreen mod is working well for me as well.
I'm finding the game runs better if I uncheck Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode - it's a bit laggy otherwise.

Hola y buenos dias a todos¡

Me gustaria si hay alguna forma de usar interfaz en Español

Este juego ha sido uno de los mejores, por no decir el mejor de mi vida.

Me gustaria jugarlo en Español¡¡

Gracias
That made me actually buying it now. Thanks!
Every time I try to download that mega link it dies right at 65 mb. Every time. Doesn't even matter what's going on on my network.
Thank you all for your efforts to reinstate the music. The old style music does help with the immersion of this game world. I haven't acquired the GOG version yet, but I could not image playing this game with so many parts in silence. The running sequence in the beginning where you flee to Salieri's Bar had that frantic accordion piece (La Verdine). I couldn't image the adrenaline rush being on the same level without that music. Even the old period music was just there to bob your head to as you drove back to Salierei's (at 40MPH!) following a mission.

So as some have posted, the original a0.dta and ab.dta files containing the OGG files were modified by GOG to make them "empty". I heard someone else mention that they replaced the music with "static". Was it actually static/white noise?

The river boat mission (Happy Birthday) has a band playing and a lady performing an old song. Does that song still remain in the vanilla GOG version? I remember extracting the songs and score years ago from my CDs, but that song was never part of it. I didn't miss it, but now with GOG removing licensed songs, I wonder if that one got the axe too.

I would be curious about happy birthday too. Surprisingly it IS a copywrited song... I think the copywrite either just expired or is about to though.

Have you tried a different browser?
I don't have any issue with the link when using Opera 48 or Firefox 56.
I could provide a backup link.

As for the music track on Mission 14 - the file is 14_Coucou.wav and it's found in the SOUNDS folder.
In the GOG version it sounds like this:
https://instaud.io/1mGy

The real track sounds like this:
https://instaud.io/1mGC

The scene on Youtube

The latter was extracted out of the missing DTA files I posted above.

Not yet but I can see if I have any other browsers. I cleaned up some of them before I think.

Here's a Google Drive link to try:

And here's a list of files that have been altered in the GOG release of the game

The google drive downloaded fine but it's an odd format. I downloaded a rar someone said was the original music as well. I haven't bought the game yet because I'm hoping I can figure out how this works before I spend any money.

Is it just an installer, or something of that nature?

It's just a self extracting 7zip archive - you can run it without installing 7zip.
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

If you're a bit worried about running the EXE file and you'd rather extract it manually you can use 7zip or WinRAR or maybe even WinZIP - just as you would with any other archive (right click menu -> extract, etc)

I've had to compress the files else the download would've been far bigger!

You should end up with two files which should be placed into the main game folder.

mwnn: It's another self extracting 7zip archive. I've included A0.DTA (Sound FX) and AB.DTA (Music)
http://www.kamalook.de/Mafia/DTA.html
A small recommendation. Please don't use self extracting archives. It's a bigger mess to deal with on Linux. Use standard archives, and everyone can figure out how to unpack them.

At least in this case, simply running 7z x on the exe file unpacked it.

Late to the party but I gotta say thank you so much for this fix
Great work on restoring the original music!

One question though. Does that self extracting archive (mafia_missing_g_dta_files.exe) include all we need to restore everything? I'm a bit confused on this. I don't have the GOG.com version of this game yet, so I have not tried this.

Sorry its still not overly clear what to do with the 'Sounds' folder.
Do we delete it? The MEGA archive obviously contains two .dta files that we place in the root directory, which have no impact on the contents of the Sounds folder, as the OP is suggesting.

Do we delete the Sounds folder, as the .dta files are replacing them? Does leaving the Sounds folder in tact impact on the .dta files in any way?
